Oh come on, didn't anyone else get seriously sick of "My name is Victoria Winters"?

I guess mine would have to be Thayer David.  His voice was so rich and regal.

kathryn leigh scott erroneously stated in one of her books that the only criterion for reciting the voicoever was that one didn't appear in the opening scene.

Sadly, that's but one of too many erroneous statements made in the PomPress books.  [sad3]

As for voiceovers, I think I agree with Gerard that Thayer's were my favorites. The really interesting thing, though, is how different certain actors' voices sounded while doing them - often very different from the characters they were portraying. It was enough to make one wonder at the time if we'd ever heard their real voices on DS.  ;)

And, no, I never really got tired of "My name is Victoria Winters" either.  :)  It somehow made those early voiceovers seem as though we were hearing many of Vicki's deepest thoughts and fears - as though she was writing them in a diary.

I forgot to include Alexandra.  I haven't seen most of the early eps...but hope to obtain them soon.  But I loved Joanna Going's..." My name is Victoria Winters" and if the show would have continued I hope that she always remained doing the voiceover.  I am pretty sure she would have.

It seems to me that whoever did the voice-over for that day's episode had quite of involvement in the story for that day.

My favorites are, not in any particular order: Thayer David, Joan bennet, Humbert Astredo, and Alexandra Moldkey.

What a pity Joel Crothers never did one.  :(

The great Humbert Allen Astredo had the best voice overs. However, he never got the chance to do to many. lolll
I also luv david selby, and chris pennock and jonathen frid. For the ladies, Lara, Kls, Grayson, Alexandra, Nancy, Joan. Thats my take on the best voice overs.

Alexandra was my favorite.  Also liked Thayer David.  The man had a great voice!  Jonathan Frid was decent at voice overs too.

Did David Henesy or Denise Nickerson ever do voiceovers?

I remember the first time I heard the voiceover done by a man- Thayer David in the next to last 1795 episode.  It was strange at the time to hear a male voice as I was so adjusted to hearing a female do the opening.

David Henesy did - but I don't remember Denise Nickerson ever doing one.

I thought the same thing recently when the episode I was watching had a voiceover by Kay Frye, the original Pansy Faye. Not a cockney syllable could be heard.

according to the d.s. almanac(and boy is my copy getting dogeared)david henesy spoke the voiceover 3 times.denise nickerson never did(perhaps her voice was too childlike to achieve the proper sense of menace).

joel crothers actually did read it once(which i can't recall).
jonathan frid read it only 12 times!

honorable mention goes to...

nancy barrett-116
joan bennett-74
thayer david-45
grayson hall-156
lara parker-66
kathryn leigh scott-75
david selby-46

alexandra moltke tops out at 387 readings.

Well, the DS Program Guide lists his name in the Voiceover column for ep #661, but it's Grayson's voice, no doubt about it.

As we've sadly had to mention too many times to count, never completely trust the DS Almanac - or any other PomPress book, for that matter.  ::)  Yes, the majority of the info is accurate, but much too much of it isn't.  :(

Grayson was my all-time favorite. Her voice belonged in this venue and one seemed to feel something quite horrible was about to happen. I thought Jim Storm was also good. He was outside his Gerard character in his voiceovers. ------and yes, I did get bored with the Victoria Winters thing. 8)
