OT: 9/11 Thoughts
« on: September 11, 2003, 02:19:36 PM »
On this second anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, I'm filled with rage that their are people in this world, Bin Laden, Arafat, Bush, who think that mass murder is a means to an end, who think that mass murder is "God's Work".

But I'm equally appalled by all the politically correct "anti-war activists"  who express outrage over Pres. Bush's aggression in Iraq, but think that what Bin Laden did/does can be justified by calling terrorists "people of color".

On 9/11/2001 I was living about two miles from the World Trade Center. Two people on our block died in the towers. We could smell the smoke for weeks. Yet when we went after Al Quada & the Taliban, "anti-war activists" were outraged. Not even one of these activists would express any sympathy for the people who died on 9/11/01! They refused to condemn the bombings in Bali, Morrocco and elsewhere that killed hundreds of innocent people.

These "activists" claimed that while it was morally reprehensible for us to kill Arabs, it was perfectly justifiable for Arabs to kill us!!!(because Arabs are "people of color")

I was told that I was a racist for speaking out against the rampant beating of women & killing of gays, Jews and Christians that is the socially accepted religious norm in Arab countries. I was told that it was perfectly justifiable for Arabs to dance & cheer in the street as 3,000 people died.
I continue to hear these things today.

So on this 9/11 anniversary, I wish to express my shame over those who think that mass murder can be justified by making high minded statements about "people's civil rights".

And I pray for all the innocent people who died that day.

You know, I have a 9/11 thought.

Yes, it was terrible, awful. I know someone who died  :'(

But, I actually want to say something else.

You know what I want to hold on to?

Our friends across the pond.

I will never forget how P.M. Blair came right over here; didn't just pick up the phone; came and was truly our ally.

Then, there's the wonderful, wonderful people who raised alot of money for the victims; people like Paul McCartney, Pete Townsend/Roger Daltry (who'd thunk we'd see THEM together again, but for US, they did); Eric Clapton....they could've just mailed a check, but no, they truly loved.

Also, I hadn't heard about this at the time, but recently watching a PBS special about Queen Elizabeth, I hear she had the guard play "The Star Spangled Banner" like the next day during a memorial. Considering that's sort of about the 'colonies' revolting against England, that showed impressive love and style on her majesty's part.

Anyhow, the people of Great Britain will always be remembered by me as a part of the 9/11; thank you our friends.

Yes!  I saw that also Patti and it moved me to tears!

Would loved to have seen Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, George Washington's face.

At least back then though men fought like men!  Soldiers fought in battles. You knew who your enemy was.  Unlike today, where we have terrorists who are nothing more than cowards, afraid to fight like men face to face.

And lets not forget our neighbors to the north.  When all those planes had to land in Canada, the distraught passengers were welcomed with open arms, and treated like family members.
its a sudden death that i know, my father wrote me to say that, my cousin, uncle jeremiah was, was very disturbed.

I don't think anyone in the peace movement says what happened wasn't wrong.  It certainly was indeed.  I believe the peace movement speaks to resolving our problems through peaceful means.  Otherwise, what do we teach our children?  Might makes right?  Please don't speak for everyone in the peace movement and please keep your comments to your own feelings or thoughts and not criticize others.  Thanks.

Thank you :D I had never really thought about it (actually, I don't think I knew about it!)

Thanks our friends up north!

Hem, hem, as Professor Umbridge would say in "Harry Potter".  (Sorry, but that character cracked me up.)

We don't ban discussion of political topics that are of specific interest to DS fans and that's usually not a problem because it's understood that since our only link in coming together here is our admiration for Dark Shadows, it's highly unlikely we'll share identical experiences and viewpoints about everything else.  David chose to share what has been his experience and to express his own opinion, and if someone hasn't had that same experience or has a dissimilar view then one option is for that person to provide his/her own, but please do not lecture or attack him for it.  Thanks.

THANKS MIDNIGHT!

for the record, I'm anti-Bush, anti-war in Iraq, anti-war, period.

But I'm tired of hearing people try to justify terrorism by making grandiose statements about "civil rights". I'm tired of activists who scream about free speech that they extend to themselves only.

And I'm tired of being told that I have some kind of moral obligation to stand "in solidarity" with cultures that are anti-gay, anti-Semetic, and beat women.

I'm quite a well read person, I've been involved with the gay rights, civil rights and pro-choice movements, all of which I continue to support. But a lot of what I've heard since 9/11/01 is simply unsupportable.

Mass murderers have no "rights", no legitimate "issues". Period.

God Bless the both of you for being brave enough to speak your minds
in a time when to do so you get "Dixie Chicked" by others(believe me it has happened to me and I work in Cambridge,Mass) attacking Bush and his polices or war in Irag has nothing to do with the horrible events of 9/11
i could not watch the retelling thurs as it is just too sad!God Bless all the victims, families and the world!

I wanted to publicly thank Annie & Jennifer for their support here & for the very kind private messages they sent me. We are all living here together, and we must all learn to respect each other.

And thanks to Midnight for making this board such a safe haven for us all!

Im so sorry to hear this David. How terrible it must have been to have been so close to the event.  I pray this never happens again.   Those of us watching it on tv could only try to comprehend the horror of it all.

Our country and the world has changed so much since then. We are so much more aware now.  And when I think of how those b________  had actually trained over here in the U.S to fly those planes it makes me sick!!   No one had any inckling as to what they were using that flight school for.  We have definetley woken up since then and hopefully, those in charge of any kind of training facilities, chemical depts, etc. will alert the proper authorities when they see something's not right.
