I was 4 also when I started watching DS back in 1966. My mother used to watch it right after General Hospital. I have to say that I found General Hospital alot more frightening that Dark Shadows! I mean those nurses were always having a crisis of some kind and we never got to see them at home (my question, "did they LIVE at the hospital?"). Contrast that with Dark Shadows which in 1967 started color broadcasts and had all those great sets and costumes. On General Hospital we only got to see the cafeteria and the nurses' station. And so, it became one of my life's phobias that I would grow up and find myself working at General Hospital. Well, you might say that couldn't happen as there really IS no General Hospital, but I was recently informed that the General Hospital of the 1960's in the opening sequence was actually Stamford Hospital (in Connecticut) which is where I work now. EEEEEEEEEE!

Thank goodness I went to the DS convention. I got enough tchotchkes to get me through this TV Dark Shadows dry spell. I don't really understand TV executives decision making processes. They know theres an audience for DS, do they think we're gonna watch just any cr*p they put in it's time slot?

Has it ever occurred to anyone else that if one had the power of time travel maybe the best place to travel back to is before Barnabas' trip to Martinique? He could have forseen the tragedy that his affair with Angelique would cause and avoided her.  Then there would be more descendents and more storylines. But of course, we wouldn't have all those wonderful Lara Parker moments. Oh well.

I don't know, just because Barnabas is usually interrogated doesn't necessarily mean he's a suspect. Who would have suspected that he was in any way responsible for Adam's appearance in Collinwood? It seems to me that they usually suspect he knows something, rather than being responsible for the crimes themselves.

That's quite a stretch! There was one episode of Are You Being Served where Joanna Lumley (Patsy Stone of Absolutely Fabulous) makes an appearance, and I think she would have been great as a guest on Dark Shadows. As yet another cousin from England, she could have fit right in chain-smoking with Julia and belting back sherry with Roger. I relish the thought of Joanna doing a Patsy Stone-like replacement for Victoria as David's governess.

Yes, there was an episode of The Simpsons where they kind of lampooned the Brady Bunch Hour when they did a Simpsons "TV Special" and had someone else as Lisa and Homer says, "No one will notice". I wasn't crazy about Diana Walker as Carolyn, but it was common back in the '60's to have someone completely different fill in for an actress when they were out. Think of Joan Crawford's filling in for Christina.

My mother is in a nursing home for a few weeks.  The dumb cable they can get there doesn't include most of the interesting channels, including SciFi.  Fortunately, we've seen all of this a couple of times, so every day I describe to her what's been happening (Robservations is really helpful - I always forget what all I've seen and go back and take notes from it!).

Anyway, her roommate was interested, and in fact, she's the one who asks each day, "Are we going to hear the story?"  All she really remembers of it is Joan Bennett.  Apparently she saw it back when it was originally on.  I figured she probably wouldn't remember what most of them look like, so other day I took the "Companion" and "Almanac" to show her some pictures.

Unfortunately, there weren't too many pictures from this storyline.  I did manage to find a few of Nicholas, a couple of Adam, one of Nicholas had a bit of vampire Angelique behind him, and one of Jeff, along with the "regulars" - so at least she has an idea of them now.  She said she can't wait to go home and watch it!


Funny you should start this thread as I was thinking of starting one myself on the same subject. The other day one of my friends came over to visit with his twenty-something Hispanic wife and Dark Shadows was on the TV. While my friend and I were talking about various things, his wife was glued to the TV. She didn't want to leave because she was loving the program so much! Another unsuspecting victim of Dark Shadows' broad appeal!
