I just viewed a clip of this video from MPI's site.

Has anyone who's seen this care to comment?  Is it worth getting?  It seems awfully derivative of DS at first blush...

BTW, Darren, did you check your own tape or a copy of the script for your answer?  ;)

One movie that has always stuck with me is "Vampire" from '79 starring Richard Lynch as Prince Anton Voytek.  That scene where he digs his way out of his grave with an unholy shriek!  :o   He has a natural mug to play the undead, ranks right up there with Frid.

I "embrace" Buffy, but it's no DS.  IMO, Buffy was influenced more by Kolchak the Night Stalker than DS.

Then again, I heard that Curtis wanted to have obligatory fight scenes between Willy and Barnabas every episode a la WWF, but the network wouldn't allow it   ;) ;D

I don't usually watch soaps (DS the exception), but I heard that some had introduced supernatural elements in their storylines?  If anyone knows of any, can they comment, please?  :)

Vic --it was the 60s/70s . . everyone was taking pills to get them thru. . .lol!

You're right.  Take a look at tv shows from that era: doctors were always prescribing sedatives -- a reflection of the times.

Darren,

caught the webcast; interesting to hear the voice behind "the name"  ;)  Aside from your segment, I sure was painfully reminded why I no longer listen to AM radio  :P   (Also, since your segment was pre-recorded, there will be an archive that listeners can download if they missed it)

Have you tried starting a petition to get the Wabbit to restore NODS?  Maybe you could distribute it at the convention?  You'd think with all the conventions, DS video tapes, and new collections on DVD coming out, the "suits" who have their heads stuck in a rabbit hole (i.e., their a$$) would finally see the light?  ::)

He and Josette were of the same class but probably would have had a dull life.

I hate to break the news, but that would have probably suited Barnabas because he's rather dull himself.  ;D

It might be interesting to adjust your tv to b&w while watching the color episodes -- just to see if it's an improvement!  :)

I've always wondered what the show would have been like if they had decided to go b&w all the way and had the art direction reflect this -- now that would have been creepy!  :o  After all, it's all about dark shadows.

When Barnabas went running out of the house he was wearing his smoking jacket and in the woods you could see he had the suit jacket on then.  I didn't even think he had time to grab his overcoat.  He was also wearing that.

I think it was a trick he picked up being a vampire: when you can control the elements you never have an excuse to be underdressed!  Or at least that's what I read on the back of a cereal box once.   ;)

UGH! I always knew I didn't like him....grrrrrrrrrrr...  >:(

IMO, what makes HODS work is that Barnabas is completely (well, almost with the exception toward his beloved Josette) evil, none of this sympathy-garnering goopishness he evokes in the series.  It's not that I'm against the goopishness in the series, just that I'm glad it was left out of the movie.

If it's true that D. Curtis only intended Barnabas to stick around a few weeks in the series, would his character have resorted to being a sympathetic one?

There's a line of dialogue by Barnabas I can't understand on the tape I have.  He's just bitten Carolyn for the second (and last) time in the "old house", and then he says to Willy:

"Get her out, Willy.  <can't understand what he shouts>. Get her out!"

Little things like this just spoil everything for me  :)
