Well, as someone who absolutely can NOT sit through church with an itch and not scratch it, I sympathize with Barney. I think it is one of those things that we non-vampires have trouble understanding! [wink2]

Another comparison is as a recovering alcoholic, I know that I can't have one drink without a physiological change leading to irresistable cravings. Those who don't drink seem to have a much better understanding than those who can have one and put it down. They are more like: "Just have one! No problem!"

Hmmm - now wouldn't it be so interesting if I did decide to post the names of the people who've taken it upon themselves to forego their share of the responsibility for saving bandwidth so that those people who are actually doing their part could see exactly who seems to think they're above their fellow posters. [vryevl]

Well, you have me looking over my shoulder! I THINK that I have done what you suggest, but honestly, I'm not sure. My guess is that instead of thinking they are high and mighty, they just didn't understand your requests! Maybe some IMs to the people would help to straighten them out?

And I'm REALLY hoping that I won't get one.... [nerv] [heh]

That would be because I am completely inept about properly sizing images.  It's Joan Bennett from one of her old movies (I loaded some pics in the archives, btw).

Luciaphil
(who doesn't care what people say about her new avatar as long as no one thinks it's a mushroom)

I would have guessed Dale Evans, but am perfectly trusting that it is our Joan. Personally, I like it better than the vintage thingagummies that DID look like a mushroom. (You others, we know what is on YOUR minds!)

Oh, this is all great. I decided that I hope my ghost will be accompanied by that intoxicating fragrance of...eau de chocolate chip cookie!

Can you imagine Barnabas in Boston with Amy and David?  How about that purposed trip to the zoo?  My imagination is going over time.  Barnabas in a fast food restaurant with the children getting them a burger and fries.

Oh my! And he thought ADAM was a pain!

Current Talk '02 II / Re: Signature Scent?
« on: September 22, 2002, 01:38:48 AM »
I think it is probably less common to have a signature scent, but some still do. Of course, Vicky's couldn't have been "White Shoulders" or "Charley", without manufacturer's approval, so lilac was a safe choice.

Personally, I have a collection too long to list, plus aromatherapy oils.

According to Sam Hall in the interview he gave to Mr. Gross, Dan Curtis had a habit of dictating sudden changes in the storylines.  It's my view that DC is to blame for a lot of the stuff that doesn't add up over time in the development of the more complicated, extended storylines.

That makes a lot of sense. I have had bosses like that and they drive me CRAZY. If you are trying for logic, continuity and things making sense: that fly-by-the-pants, to heck with a game plan, I have THIS idea now, style is abhorrent! Plus, they are notorious for delegating  responsibility without any authority. As in "I micro-manage every stinking detail and decision, but if it doesn't go well, it is YOUR fault!"

?!?I noticed that also, and dumb me, said to self "who is Mr. Jonathan? What have I missed? " Then it dawned on me, he was calling the actor by his first real name!!!
Sure made me feel foolish for a second.

I had the exact same reaction! It just wasn't obvious since he so thoroughly mixed up the names. Mrs. Johnson seemed confused about it too! I wasn't entirely ure WHO he would be taken to...

Current Talk '02 II / Re: Joel Crothers - DS's Most Underrated Actor?
« on: September 21, 2002, 05:49:33 AM »
If I hadn't ever seen him as Nathan Forbes, I would be less likely to agree. But he was obviously wonderful in that role. I still find it interesting that he could be so sexy as one character and so not as Joe.

I think that he played Joe TOO well. There is that attitude that is easy to take "Oh, he isn't really acting, he must really be like that." Because he was so natural in the role and it was an every day guy part.

To be honest, though I think he fell short a bit when he had to play Joe as a troubled guy. It is quite likely it wasn't his fault and it was just that it didn't work with the character. I think his final scene is unintentionally hilarious.

I think in most states Lizzie would HAVE to be embalmed. Tough luck, if she WAS alive at that point. It bugs the crap out of me that she has been talking for MONTHS about how they will think she is dead, but she won't be. Then, "Oh, she's dead, what a bummer." Never a mention of her obsession or the possibility that she could be not dead, it would appear that they didn't even get a second opinion! (And with Jooooliahh proclaming her dead, I think that would have been a decidedly good idea).

I think Roger is on a bender in London. No problems believing THAT part of the plot!

It may vary from state to state, but you do NOT need a teaching certificate to teach in a private school in either Arizona or Missouri. Some private schools have some education requirements, but that is up to them. You don't need a teaching certificate to be a substitute teacher in the public system here in Missouri also, though you do need some college, I think two years. My understanding was that Vicky grew up in the orphanage and then continued on a teacher there. Presumably, as a private school that would be fine. You don't need a teaching certificate to home school either, and that is essentially what they are doing with David and Amy. (Though was certainly not as common then, and would have been a whole 'nother enchilada than it is now.) Since David and Amy never actually have any lessons, I don't think it matters whether Naggie is qualified or not.  Personally, I thought it odd that Naggie wanted to go back to work at the diner so bad after her kidnapping ordeal, but after her dad died and she probably needed to, she didn't.

My older son has watched the show with me in the past. My younger one is now. He was really interested in the children's actions today!

I partake in another discussion board and a New England friend there sings the praises of Moxie. If I ever get to that part of the nation, I will have to try it. Earlier in the day!

Yeah, it was one LOOOONG night at Collinwood. Amy was supposed to go to bed when she got back from the movies with Joe. He then goes to see Chris, goes to see Maggie, Maggie gets call, Joe goes back and Amy is still up. Chris finally gets pills, but waits until he gets home to take them, no wonder they didn't help!

I have to wonder WHY Chris is always running around at dusk seeming to have no track of time or that it will be dark. Helloooo, if you want to be able to see anyone or do anything, do it before 5 p.m. in the winter months! If ever anyone needed daylight savings time, it is Chris. It must take him forever to wake up after wolfie wears himself out! Note to Chris: buy a watch.

there certainly is a LOT going down at Collinwood! Who would have thought that Joe and Vicky were so close that he would go insane at her exit. Of course, her change in appearance and personality WAS confusing for everyone! You practically need a score card to keep track right now. Quentin's on first, Joe's out, Chris only talks about getting out, etc.

I feel sorry for viewers who missed a week or two of the show at this point in the original viewing.

And poor Joooliaahh. I nominate her outfit today as the ugliest ever. On anybody for the duration of the show. She looked like a demented, military schoolmarm with a Nazi fetish!

Isn't it interesting how we can watch the wolfie transformation over and over with no ill effects, yet it ruins everyone who is in the presence of it? Oh wait, I do have to go color my hair.....

At the time, I was about Amy's age.  We shopped at Ohrbachs for our Easter dresses.  One year, I bought a bright yellow dress similar to the one Liz wears(paisley with green and purple).  My dress was bright yellow with red and orange.  I was forced to wear unbearable itchy yellow  fishnet leotards(heavier than pantyhose) and bright yellow shoes.  I still have nightmares!

Gee, I LOVED my fishnets! (Mine didn't itch though!) Especially when I finally got my pair of white gogo boots. Of course, they were out of style by the time I finally got them.

I think my Mom liked the fishnets for me as a transition from little girl socks to hose. One thing I did NOT like was the 3" indention from the garter belt thingamabob into my thigh. Ewwww, sitting on hard wood seats in school with those things was murder! I just have never been able to see garter belts as sexy....more like a torture device and I'm SO not into pain!

I don't think the writers gave much thought to it. They wrote what they had to for that day. Molly/ Amy, what's the difference? Naomi being given jewels by sailors/Naomi being an alcoholic married to a repressive/abusive man, what's the difference?
