Current Talk '02 II / Zombie time - spoilers
« on: November 13, 2002, 06:37:57 AM »
I have only seen this part of DS once, and I had completely forgotten Quentin becoming a zombie. And he does it so well!

Alright, I have to admit that I am very grateful to Barney for going back in time and making Quentin a permanent addition to the cast. But it does seem like he could have stayed home and saved a lot of trouble. If Quentin didn't die in the room and Jennie stabbed him instead, wouldn't that have freed David from the danger? I have to think that Chris wouldn't have had the curse either, since Magda hasn't laid it on Q yet. It seems like at least Barney should have said "I Ching, here I come..." and gone back. Could it be that a certain governess is affecting his choice to remain in the past?

I thought David Henesy did a great job of imitating Quentin, even his laugh.

Current Talk '02 II / TLTKLS question
« on: November 13, 2002, 02:28:54 AM »
We all know that several guys here are convinced  that KLS, is the greatest SWT ever. (Great to see you back Ringo!) How do you women feel about her?

I have to admit, that I am becoming aware of really disliking her characters. It isn't so much that I dislike Rachel, though, OK, I do despise stupid wide eyed twits. But what I really dislike is men's reaction to her!!! Yes, I'm jealous and I'm mystified about her appeal and I always have been. When I was a YT, I used to look at the SYTs and wonder how they did it. And that's just it, they don't DO anything, they just are and men drool over them. I used to think what am I, chopped liver? (And now that I am no longer even Y, I know that, yes, I am chopped liver.)

So, am I the ONLY awful person with such feelings? [vryevl]

Well, we DO know that KLS threatened to blimp out if her character was ever paired with his! I would call that a complaint. And quite honestly, we would never know if any of them DID complain or not, unless they said so publicly. We know that Dan Curtis really liked RD, so my guess is the women had to lump it. I don't think that kind of behavior is all that uncommon in acting, which IS rather different than working in an office after all. It would be hard to prove sexual harassment when you have been doing a love scene, not that sexual harassment was a concept at that time. I also disagree with the theory that the women wouldn't appear at a fest with him if he had been guilty of it. C'mon, nobody EVER implied he did anything more than inappropriate behavior and it was years ago.

Whether he was or wasn't inappropriate is really just conjecture based solely on what we watch on tape.  Most of us are having a good time with it. If you want to defend him, go for it. Not everyone here enjoys disliking him, some do like him.  It helps if you can not take it too seriously.

Oh, that would be SUCH fun! I am sorry to hear that it is going downhill though. I know the upkeep would be horrendous, but it certainly would be worth it. Is there a history of the building posted on the internet?

I loved it when Carl thought he saw Quentin's body move, he screamed like Homer Simpson!

Proof positive that all Collins men--except Quentin--carries in his DNA a histrionic fop gene...

LOL!! I loved Carl today, but also cracked up at his scream. I'm trying, REALLY trying to come up with another Collins to contradict your theory, but dang, I just can't.... [hdscrt]

Oh, honestly, real time is my favorite. It used to be such a relief to me when they would return to it! It anchors the show. I love most of the time periods now, but I think 1897 would be my first choice. 1840 (is that right?) is up there too.

I think I am one of the posters that you are thinking of, I know I did one about Davis that after I had posted, I realized may have been out of the guidelines. I really didn't question it while I was writing it, but as I hit "Post" the question popped into my head. I know that we CAN go back and change posts now (unlike a while ago), but I decided to let it go and let Midnite be the judge. I know it was on for a while, but maybe it was eventually deleted, I'm not sure. I decided that either way was OK with me.

I have had other posts selected for deletion in the past though, so I really don't think that any of us are immune from that unless our posting is unquestionably within the guidelines.

My understanding of the guidelines are that they are NOT to prevent anyone from getting their feelings hurt ever. I've heard that some actors can't read reviews without getting their feelings hurt, so they don't read reviews. Similarly, I would guess that someone in the public eye would have to decide if they are able to handle reading what the public thinks of them in fan forums. Acting is notoriously difficult for the insecure, think of the audition process, then if they make the cut, the critics. And then here we are 30 years later, STILL making remarks about performances!!! Gak!

I am really looking forward to perusing the snarky site Luciaphil was kind enough to share with us!

Well, she had Jeremiah up and around didn't she? And he did rather look like a one man "Night of the Living Dead" performance!

You suppose the will that Judith found in the family album is the original? That would make sense considering Quentin's reaction. I guess he thinks Granny put the will in the book herself.

Yes,  that was my understanding. Sandor was trying to forge a copy when Barney caught him. So, presumably Barney had the original. Then he had Magda predict where it could be found.

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Re: Incomplete Slide

It did happen to me twice one night, right after you posted this. I thought, "Oh, THAT'S what she was talking about!" But, fortunately, it hasn't repeated yet. The slide takes long enough without doing that.

What puzzles me a great deal is the fact that Quentin isn't having a fit, because he knows that the will should have been rewritten to his favor. He's got to know something went terribly wrong with Evan's and his plans to change the will. I can't believe he didn't rush over to Evan's or the Old House after the reading of the will. I don't remember but I think this is also resolved in upcoming episodes.

I think he was having "grave" misgivings about his "undertaking" since Grandmamama began making pesky trouble for him!

This is the first time I've viewed the 1897 storyline--I have a couple of questions. If Jenny is Magda's sister, why doesn't she have a gypsy accent like Magda? Also, about the Jane Eyre story influencing this storyline--if Jenny was married to Quentin why would she want to burn Edward (the Rochester character) in his bed and not Quentin--her husband? [huhb]

I think she lost her accent in a determined attempt to leave her origins behind her. Presumably it would come back as she deteriorated mentally, but this IS soap opera land. And the reason she tried to burn Edward is because we are not supposed to KNOW that she is actually Quentins's wife, and think that she is Edward's missing little lady. I honestly think they did a nifty job of that twist. I know the first time I saw it, it took me completely by surprise.

And I think that any crazy person could probably come up with at least one or two good reasons to burn Edward, whether they had been married to him or not!

A nineteen year old Sweathog WOULD look pretty good after that! (tee hee... [spin])

I forget who pointed it out (wasn't me) but really with the exception of Joshua, most of the control of the family comes from the female characters.

Well, that is a good point. But, it seems that it is also only the older females who can have any character, intelligence and strength. I've never understood the male desire to mate with a pretty idiot. From a species perspective, I can understand the young part, and we all know that beauty is a powerful attractant, even animals respond to it. But why would you want dumb children? I can't comprehend why men who are not dumber than a box of rocks don't care if a woman is.
