Awesome!!  I love the look of the house, and it's great to finally see a still of Willie!  I'm hoping that the photos will surface at a faster pace from now on.  Now, we just need the trailer  [snow_tongue]

In fact, as I think about it, maybe what KLS should've done would be to publicize the book by voluntarily showing a very small low resolution photo, perhaps with a Pomegranate Press watermark, of one or more of those photos, on one of those comic book sites, or even Entertainment Weekly.  This would really get the info out there that her book would contain images from the new movie, and at the same time she would have a platform to announce that there were newly found photos from the OS as well.  In other words, get the word out there to the more mainstream audience who might not know about the book because they aren't visiting DS boards.  And if folks only had a tiny photo to look at, they could decide whether they'd want to get the book to be able to look at the "real thing."  Just my $.02.

Seeing this from the Depp fan side of things, I personally do not feel that KLS would be losing any sales from them/us.  Truth be told, I don't think most Depp fans even know about the book.  I certainly don't see it being posted about or discussed very much.  But if they *do* learn about the book, I'll bet as Gothick would that more fans would want to get the book to have a copy of those photos than would otherwise buy the book.  Many Depp fans, especially those of us of a certain age, like to collect books and magazines that have cool Depp content.  (True, some younger fans may not be as willing to buy what they can get for free, as they are more apt to have the internet mindset, but even there, there tends to be a huge temptation to own things like this).

The problem, of course, is the lack of giving proper credit to KLS or the book.  From what I have seen, folks are just enjoying the photos without knowing or caring where they are from.  I made mention of the book when I posted on the Depp forum that I belong to, but I didn't see it being discussed on the Johnny Depp Zone, for instance.  That's a shame, because they would potentially be a new group of buyers, if they knew about the book.  Perhaps someone will come up with that information in the future, and some will decide to purchase the book.

There will always be folks like Cousin Barnabas, who after seeing the photos, may decide to hold off in making a purchase.  But I think that there are other fans, who will see the photos as a selling point.  I must confess that I myself, while I was planning to purchase the book, had not really gotten around to doing so, and I wasn't really paying attention to when it'd be released.  But after the photos I placed my order (albeit with Amazon, where I will get it later but cheaper  [snow_grin] )  In fact, there are book publishers that will allow a preview to be viewed on Amazon, because sometimes seeing a preview may *help* sales.  At worst, as Gothick says, it's really no different than being in a book store or a library.  But again, the proper credit is key, and I wish that could be rectified.

Current Talk '24 I / Re: hoDS/NoDS DVD Release?

Thanks for the updates, Darren!  While it means a longer wait, I'm kind of accustomed to waiting longer than I'd like to for various entertainment releases, and if it makes the final result better it's all for the best!

I hope this is the right forum for this.  Last year, we heard that Johnny Depp and his company Infinitum Nihil had picked up The Night Stalker to develop.  I didn't see a thread for it here, only one post from last year mentioning it.  Today, Deadline.com reports that a director has been attached (and several other film/horror sites have already picked up the story).  It is Edgar Wright, who previously directed Shaun of the Dead (one of my fave zombie movies!) and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.  There as as of yet no writer.  It tickles me that Johnny would play both Barnabas and Kolchak  [snow_grin]

Calendar Events / Announcements '12 I / Re: Vampires at the Superbowl

I didn't see either of these 2 Zap2it articles, but I loved the commercial.  I thought it was more of a dig on the current craze of "hip" vampires- you know, the ones that sparkle (and are popular and love to party, as shown in the ad), as opposed to the traditional genre per se.  But then, maybe I'm just an optimist :)

I did take a peek at Audi's Facebook page this morning, hoping to see the ad posted there so I could "share" it with friends, but they only had a photo.  To my surprise, the vast majority of actual Audi fans hated the commercial- they felt it trivialized Audi and that they should stick to selling the car in a more traditional way instead of a gimmick like the headlights.  So that is another take entirely that I hadn't considered.  At any rate, I thought it was hilarious, one of my favorites of the evening.  (The Doritos dead cat one and the one with the boy who had to pee... not so much   [snow_rolleyes]  )  To each, their own!

(Still sad they couldn't have had a DS trailer ready, though  [snow_cry]  )

mdscntst, Cody has a few Fb pages, but the one with the photos that michael c mentioned is a closed group.  The link to it is on one of her public pages, or search for Kathleen's Dark Shadows Friends to join.

I see she belatedly admitted her mistakes about the photoshopped and misattributed pictures.  If only some of the fans posting in those same threads were also willing to open their minds a little, geezus.  One wants no changes to the original show at all, one lumps any fan into that group who brings up any valid criticism about the new take...

Thanks Midnite!  I did eventually find the group and saw that it was closed.  From the sound of it, I don't think it's a group I'd care to join, so I didn't ask for an invite and haven't seen the photos.  But I'm happy to hear that she came clean about them.  That's the important thing!

By the way, I saw somewhere in passing on one of the Depp forums that they saw a tweet about no DS trailer being ready.  I wasn't familiar with the name the tweet was from, so I can't attest as to its validity, but it's disappointing to hear.  I might see The Woman In Black this weekend and I was so hoping there might be a nice surprise of a trailer attached, but I guess not  [snow_sad]  By the way I was browsing through some old information I had, and noticed that the Sweeney Todd trailer wasn't released until October and the film came out in December, so that wasn't a very long lead time, either  [snow_sad]

I don't think they'd abandon the website!  To me, this is a good sign, because it means they're tinkering.  Tinkering is always good, in my book!  Incidentally, there is another permutation, http://darkshadowsmovie.warnerbros.com/
(with "movie", without "the", with "warnerbros") that is also redirecting to WB.

I agree with you totally, Gothick.  As for The Avengers, I have participated on a now-defunct movie box office site, and they were already discussing The Avengers YEARS ago-  before it was even filmed.  This movie has been hugely anticipated for a long, long time among comic book/action hero buffs.  Of course, DS has been equally anticipated... by us.  But I think that we are a much smaller focus group than they are.  Again, I hope folks don't look at Johnny's box office returns for Pirates or Alice In Wonderland and expect DS to do the same.  Johnny's films (and Burton's films) are not always huge mega-blockbusters.  I just hope that it makes back its production budget, and that it's a great film  [snow_smiley]

I wasn't able to find the photos in question, but I don't think I ever saved a link to her DS group- I only found her page as an actor/director, and other DS groups I know of don't seem to be the one.  Well, most of Johnny's photo shoots (and even candids, events, etc.) are very well known to the Depp fan community, and such things could never be passed off there, but it's a shame if anyone can get away with that in the DS community :(  I wonder why she is devoting time and effort into such negative pursuits?  (Unless as you say, it could possibly be an imposter, in which case I wonder why an imposter would devote time for that in addition to posing as someone else?  Uy.

Was it here or another discussion group that someone speculated the trailer might be attached to the upcoming Daniel Radcliffe movie (The Woman In Black, I think??)  I think that comes out Feb. 3, so I'm crossing my fingers.  Also, has anyone heard anything about Super Bowl spots?  I seem to recall hearing that WB wasn't going to do any this year, but I might've imagined that.  I seem to remember one or two movie trailers debuting during the Super Bowl in the past.

^ And not to mention that perhaps Frid would've liked to have a little more makeup if he were to have the luxury of spending several hours a day in a makeup chair, as they do for a big budget film!  It was never going to be any great leap to realize that a major motion picture made in the 2010's is going to look different than a daytime show made in the 1960's.

343
Regarding MB's DS film links, Safari and Firefox for Mac both work, too, even though the page is blank.  I think the fact that they even have a working blank page up now is a good sign!  Continuing to cross fingers...

Believe me, I would WELCOME a little bit of attention for DS rather than all this attention to his personal life, which really should be his own business  [snow_cheesy]  (I still don't really believe these reports, because they are full of holes and inaccuracies, which I won't get into here, but it's hard not to wonder a little bit when things have reached this level!  But whatever the case may be, I wish them both and their kids the best).  But despite all this, or maybe because of it, now would really be a good time to get that trailer out there!!  And we could use a few more stills, too, while we're at it!

By the way, this is kind of a longshot, but--

Johnny and Michelle have both been announced as presenters for tomorrow's Golden Globes Awards.  Angelina Jolie will also present, and my first thought was that Johnny and Angelina might present together, to give host Ricky Gervais a hard time (anyone who watched the ceremony last year knows what I'm talking about- Ricky skewered their movie The Tourist).  But a poster on I think the Johnny Depp Zone brought up the possibility that Johnny and Michelle might present together.  It's an interesting thought, though I'm still betting on the first possibility.  But you never know!  Either way, they'll both be there, for anyone interested in watching.
