Current Talk '14 II / Bob Dylan mentions DS! (Showtime documentary)
« on: November 22, 2014, 07:39:43 PM »
Hey folks, I was watching a Showtime documentary last night, Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued.  It's a film about how several musicians recently wrote music to some long-lost Bob Dylan lyrics and recorded an album that just came out called Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes.  The film features some voiceovers by Dylan, who described recording his famous Basement Tapes in the late 60's.  He was talking about how he just wrote songs about whatever he happened to hear about, whether on the news or on TV, and said something like, "If there was something on TV, like As The World Turns, or Dark Shadows, we might write a song about it."   [hall2_smiley]

I don't know enough about The Basement Tapes to know which song(s) might've been influenced by DS, but I was tickled that he considered it a source of inspiration!

Johnny's Barnabas made their list of Hottest Vampires, but I know that Jonathan Frid should've been on the list, too!  (And where is Christopher Lee, for that matter?  Too many Twilight/True Blood vamps and not enough of the legends, IMHO!)  [hall2_grin]

As I mentioned in the DS film thread, Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper, Steven Tyler, and Joe Perry performed last night at an afterparty for the DS premiere.  I'm excited that two youtubes have surfaced:  Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love and the Stones' Brown Sugar.  Supposedly School's Out was played as well- hope that one surfaces, along with anything else they may have played.  Johnny's way over on the left- looks like he changed outfits from his premiere attire.  Check them out if you're so inclined:

I hope this is the right forum for this.  Last year, we heard that Johnny Depp and his company Infinitum Nihil had picked up The Night Stalker to develop.  I didn't see a thread for it here, only one post from last year mentioning it.  Today, Deadline.com reports that a director has been attached (and several other film/horror sites have already picked up the story).  It is Edgar Wright, who previously directed Shaun of the Dead (one of my fave zombie movies!) and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.  There as as of yet no writer.  It tickles me that Johnny would play both Barnabas and Kolchak  [snow_grin]

I was just browsing through a slideshow on Entertainment Weekly's site, of the cast of the upcoming Spielberg film, Lincoln (not to be confused with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter  [hall2_wink] )  I saw 3 count 'em 3 present/former DS actors in the cast!  From the DS film, Jackie Earle Haley and Gulliver McGrath are in it, McGrath as one of Lincoln's sons (haha, Gulliver seems to be everywhere lately, as he's also in Hugo!), and alum Joseph Gordon-Levitt is also in it as another of Lincoln's sons.  Great!  The film is slated for October 2012, and will star Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln.

For what it's worth, the Teen Choice Awards are tonight (it airs on Fox) and Johnny has 3 nominations

Actor - Action Movie (The Tourist)
Actor - Sci Fi/Fantasy (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides)
Animated Movie Voice - (Rango)

I doubt he'll be there, because he was spotted at a rugby game yesterday in England.  But sometimes he submits an acceptance video (if he wins anything, that is).

Unfortunatelyl, Chloe Moretz doesn't have a nomination, but her film Let Me In is up for Horror movie.  Next year, maybe Dark Shadows will be in that spot  [ghost_wink]

Apologies if this has already been posted- I didn't see it.  Joseph will be starring in a new Seth Rogan comedy called 50/50.  Normally I don't care much for Seth, but I love Joseph and this one does look a little... different.

Here is the trailer:

The trailer has leaked out a couple of days before Comic Con, when we expected to see it.  Just thought I'd share what is keeping Tim Burton busy enough to delay starting on DS  [ghost_smiley]  (It's a bit different from what I was expecting!)

Calendar Events / Announcements '08 II / Kathy Cody
« on: September 16, 2008, 04:42:03 PM »
I hope this is the right place to post this.  The die-hards may already know this, but I didn't... I had just rented the classic film, Double Indemnity from Netflix, and I saw that there was a bonus disc so I rented that too.  But instead of the bonus disc being extras from the 1940's film, it was a TV Movie from 1973, starring Richard Crenna and Samantha Eggar.  Egad, it wasn't nearly as good as the original- the acting was horrible IMHO!  Anyway, as I was watching, the character of Lola, Eggar's character's stepdaughter came on, and I immediately thought, "that looks like Kathy Cody!"  And sure enough, it was.  I hadn't seen her in anything besides DS, and certainly wasn't expecting her to pop up in this film, so it was a nice surprise to find a sudden DS connection (even though I still think the film was pretty bad!)  The character wasn't too much different than Carrie/Hallie- an 18-ish pretty girl who was seeing boys that her dad didn't approve of, who suspected something was a bit off with her dear stepmom  [ghost_shocked]
