Johnny really has a love of older time periods, especially the 30's or so.  On top of that, he was born in Kentucky and has some of that Southern influence from his relatives. He's a very modern guy (rock guitar player, lots of tattoos, ripped jeans) but often sneaks in certain slang words that we don't really hear any more.  He has called Elizabeth Taylor a "broad", and he often greets a woman as "doll".  Maybe it's just because I'm used to it from being a fan and hearing him speak a lot, but I don't take these words as insults-- I think they're his way of using an endearment.  I really don't think he means any harm.

Other than the materialism of how much that ring must've cost   [snow_shocked]  I'm kinda tickled that he'd wear something like that. His relationship with Amber is still pretty new to me, and he's usually so private that I am surprised (and kind of happy, actually) that he was so open about it during his China visit.

MB, maybe Amber will get that Barnabas ring, yet!   [snow_cheesy]  (Or possibly one of his many skull rings that he wears).

What an awesome interview, David!  Thanks so much!  I love that the questions are unique and interesting, and Gabriel's answers are thoughtful, too.  I'm glad there's still hope for you, David  [snow_wink]  As a woman old enough to be Gabriel's mother, I'd like to think there's hope for me, too, but...  [snow_grin] [snow_clown]

Something like this used to happen to me more often, using a Mac and Firefox, but doesn't usually happen to me anymore, though I use Chrome now.  However, this morning I had trouble- sort of locked as Patti described.  I was hoping it was just a little glitch- glad to be here now! :)

Awesome news- I love both, and am especially happy to see John Noble as a regular after loving him for so many years on Fringe.  This season ended way too soon- can't wait for next year!!

Here is a fun article from WhatCulture!  (Though I do like Sherlock, too)

Thanks MB!  This has been by far my favorite new show of the year.  For some reason, I couldn't get into Dracula and gave up after about 3 episodes, though maybe I'll give it another chance sometime.  I think it's that I just never warmed up to the lead.  Hostages is ridiculous but I watch because at least it will have a definitive endpoint, and I'm hanging in with The Blacklist mainly for the wonderful James Spader.  But for me, Sleepy Hollow has it all: two GREAT leads who have great chemistry together, an interesting premise, a great mix of tension and humor, and oh yeah, some nice eye candy, as well  [santa_wink]  I look forward to the finale and to next season!

So, now that the year is nearly over, Forbes has made a list of the 10 worst performing films of 2013, and of course, The Lone Ranger is nowhere to be found.  In fact, according to this Advocate article, the film made the studio a "modest profit" after all.

Forbes worst performing films of 2013

But it's too late to change the public perception of how the film did, and I'm sure that most folks will always just keep assuming it was a huge flop.  Just like DS and The Tourist before it  [hall2_grin]

Johnny's Barnabas made their list of Hottest Vampires, but I know that Jonathan Frid should've been on the list, too!  (And where is Christopher Lee, for that matter?  Too many Twilight/True Blood vamps and not enough of the legends, IMHO!)  [hall2_grin]

I enjoyed the film, though I do think it could've been more, and I think I'm actually a bit more bothered by a few of my pet peeves now than when I first saw the film.  But at the end of the day, I liked it and am glad for its existence.

I definitely respect the opinions of those who didn't like it, or even those who hated it, AS LONG AS they respect my opinion, too.  In other words, I don't want to feel bullied or put down because my opinion might differ from theirs, and when I heard that this happened on Facebook and other places, I just had to wonder why some people have to be so childish.  I am so very grateful for this forum, that the folks here have been so civil and willing to let everyone express their own views.  But I'm sorry if people left this place because it was more accommodating toward the film than they wanted.  It seems a silly reason to leave.  Can't we all just get along? :)

I was out of town when this news hit, and the blond hair was a bit of a shock to come home to!  [hall2_grin]  (Even though Depp's been blonde for a few roles before).  We believe this is the look for his new movie Mortdecai, which is officially starting to film today.  I was SO happy to hear that he was there to honor Lee (not to mention how thrilled I was that they awarded Lee, though it certainly seems WAY overdue!!)  Besides working together in Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and DS, Lee was also originally going to be in Sweeney Todd, as a "ghost". They even had him on the original cast list in an ad they ran on the first day of production, but sadly, the idea of the ghosts (basically, narrators) was cut out :(   I was so glad he got to be in DS, albeit in a small role- the guy is such a legend!

I've only seen a couple of the reviews (and I haven't seen the film), but the ones I saw thought that Chloe and Julianne Moore were both good, but that the movie was bland.  'Course, lately, I have been a little suspicious of movie reviews in general, so who knows if the reviewers are correct or not.  But I think that's what I've seen.  On the bright side, if they did like her performance, at least that might help her with future roles.

I haven't really had a chance to see most of the previews, with the exception of a couple of quick ads, but I'm in!  I look forward to it starting!

MGM did something that movie studios haven't done for decades:  use a "stunt" to promote a movie.  This was not untypical, especially during the fifties.  I think it's great that MGM decided to have some fun promoting Carrie and it's gone "viral."  If you haven't seen it yet, because it's at the top of the list of "trendy" on newsites from Yahoo to MSN, here it is:

Yikes, I would've had a heart attack, lol.  I hope nobody did.  It's fun to look from afar, though.  Thanks Gerard, I'm not trendy so I hadn't seen this!
