They really could've done what many of us hoped/predicted they would, which would've been to release one "funny"/young trailer, and then another with a darker and more horror-oriented tone.  Then, those who liked either type of film would realize that there was more to the film than just what was being depicted in one type of trailer.  A couple of the clips that were available online later on did show the darker tone, but those weren't really shown as advertisements, and by then, it might've been too late to attract part of the audience, anyway.

Oh well :)

Woo-hoo, enjoy, David-Elijah!   [ghost_cool]

Boxoffice.com has DS's Tuesday numbers, though they don't have a chart up yet for the day (and neither does box office mojo).  DS made $38,289, which is up from Monday and actually more than it made 3 Tuesdays ago  [ghost_smiley]  The total is now $77,340,642.

DS made $34,165 on Monday, which actually seems pretty respectable considering its small number of theaters.  It has (thankfully) gotten back above Battleship, after sinking below it (pardon the pun  [ghost_wink] ) over this past weekend.  Interestingly, DS made almost the same amount 3 Mondays ago, June 25th, when it made $34,538.  Its domestic total is now $77,302,353

DS's weekend numbers are in.  As expected, its placing has dropped due to the drop in theaters- from Box Office Mojo, it looks to be in 27th place for the weekend (even below Battleship!  [ghost_shocked] ).  Its total for the weekend was $226,926, coming from:

Friday: $67,603
Sat.: $90,374
Sun.: $68,949 (interestingly, this is very close to the box office from 6/24, 3 Sunday's ago, which was $69,768.  The Fri. and Sat. are much lower than that weekend, though).

The domestic total is now $77,268,188, bringing the worldwide to $234,068,188.  I haven't seen a change in the overseas number in the past week- it's still at $156,800,000.

You're all so sweet!   [ghost_smiley]

Thanks so much, Annie, jimbo and Gothik!  Dang, I did receive some Johnny Depp photos today, but none of them were naked!  [ghost_grin]  However, one was of him playing guitar striking a darn sexy pose, so that will have to suffice! [ghost_wink]

Wow, 10 times, that is impressive!!  I think the most times I've ever seen a film in theaters was about 6 or 7 for Sweeney Todd, but that included a free advance screening.  I got to DS 3 times, and hoped to have gotten there at least one more time, but I didn't make it and don't think I'll get any more chances as it's left my area now.

Even though I don't usually get film boots, I'm glad to hear that this one was pretty good.  Try to keep cool, doctor-- I think we've gotten some of your weather here in DC in recent weeks  [ghost_wink]

Aw, thanks so much, Midnite!  I am happy to be celebrating my 29th birthday.  I just won't say how many times I've celebrated my 29th birthday!!   [ghost_cheesy]

^^^ Yikes, that's a bad time for a horror film to cut off, even if it's a cheesy one!

I don't usually deal with bootlegs of movies, though I will confess to having some music bootlegs.  I wonder if part of the reason DS is such a popular title is because of all the fans of the OS who declined to see it in theaters.  But I still hope it might mean that there will also be a good market for the real DVD/blu-ray when it comes out, too!

I've just heard the sad news that Richard Zanuck, one of the producers of the Dark Shadows film, passed away today at age 77.  It was said to be a heart attack.  RIP, Mr. Zanuck  [ghost_sad]

Thursday Box Office was $48,230, up 8% from Wed. and finally putting the domestic total over $77M at $77,041,262.  DS retained its 22nd place position.

http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?view=1day&sortdate=2012-07-12&p=.htm

I imagine there will be a noticeable drop in the coming week, due to the drop in theaters.  At this point, I don't think it can reach $78M, much less $80M.  Hopefully the foreign box office can chug along a little bit, so that perhaps DS could reach a quarter billion worldwide before all is said and done.

I think I'm in the vast minority, but I actually liked Barnabas brushing his fangs  [ghost_smiley]  For me, it fit in with the Top Of The World montage and with the theme of him adjusting to 21st century life.

The Windex wasn't the greatest, but I would've been up for Mrs. Johnson to come along and quietly clean him up with a sponge or washcloth, as if it was just another normal day at Collinwood.

However, I'm totally with you on the projectile vomiting; in fact, with repeated viewings the whole Angelique/Barnabas confrontation at the end felt a few beats too long and drawn out.  I could have also either done without the Carolyn reveal, OR had that aspect be fleshed out a bit better so it didn't seem so clunky.

David-Elijah, that is nice news that DS will be opening in a first run theater.  Unfortunately, in the DC area, it looks like it will be gone completely tomorrow- at least no theaters come up on a search  [ghost_sad]

Altogether, DS will lose 64 theaters next week, and will still be screening in 239 theaters.  That's a bit better than the Wrath of Titans (thanks MB!)

theater counts from Box Office Mojo

DS made $44,755 yesterday, to keep it in 22nd place.  The total is now an annoying $76,993,032 (oh c'mon, just make another $7,000 already!  [ghost_wink] )

The Tuesday DS box office take was $46,717, up 14.8% from yesterday, and again better than the Tuesday box office for 2 weeks ago (though much lower than last week's holiday-eve number).  This brings the domestic total to $76,948,27.  At the moment, DS is in 22nd place for Tues., unless something else sneaks in.

You can see all the daily numbers here:
http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&id=darkshadows.htm

The big question is, how many theaters will be lost next week?  We won't know the theater counts until tomorrow evening.  It will apparently be leaving my local cheapie theater next week  [ghost_sad]
