Finally on Monday we get back to 1968!  It seems strange now to think of all the events that were going on in the real world during the 1st airing of DS. 1968 was a turbulent year.  That year I was watching this as a 7th grader.  It is still my favorite escapist enjoyment.

Hello MM.....Welcome aboard!!

You're not alone in waiting for Mr. Loomis to return from his "attitude adjustment"!!  So am I.....and another poster named Carol.....and I know there are others...but I can't think of names this early in the morning.   ?!?

I was a 9th-grader in the spring of '68, with an older brother in Vietnam....turbulence is the perfect word for those times!!  I guess worrying about the tribulations of Willie Loomis WAS a good escape from the "real world". :)

You're going to love this forum.....sometimes we're serious, but most of the time we're NOT!  Some of us are down-right hilarious, but mostly, we're just nice folks who happen to be a bit ditzy over DS!  :o

Never hesitate to ask questions, by the way, because the Omnipotent Ones, Midnite and Mysterious Benefactor, know all,....and always share the answers!! ;)

What in the world took you so long to become a member, if you don't mind my asking?  Have you posted here before?  I've brought this up a couple of times on other threads....why do people read this stuff and not add their own 2 cents?  It's not like we're going to yell at you!!  [lghy]

I'm just glad another fan of Willie's showed up!  ;D

Raineypark, I've never posted on this board before--just
enjoyed reading the posts.  I don't really have an excuse--it just took me a while to make the decision.

I often think about what a turbulent time 1968 was. I glad I was only a child and didn't think it too scary that the world seem to be going to heck. I give my parents credit for holding it together during those times.
I must go. However, I shalln't be long.
 Good day everyone!

I was only 4 years old in the spring of 1968, so I remember only bits and pieces of that time period, Dark Shadows being one of them. My dad was in the Vietnam War before that, he was in the first part of it. Welcome MM! Glad you came out of the lurk mode and decided to join in. I hope others will do the same. I'm not a big fan of his but I do like Willie Loomis. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of Harry Johnson at Collinwood. I like Willie Loomis the best of John Karlen's Dark Shadows roles, next would be Desmond Collins. I enjoy seeing John Karlen at the Dark Shadows Festival. He always has good things to say and he is funny! At a banquet, he was sitting right behind me at the other table, and his table was really going. They were the life of the party! Finally I leaned back and said to him, "You're having way too much fun!" He said to me, "Honey, that's just what I'm here for!" You gotta meet him in person.

I was in fifth grade when DS returned to 1968.  Every day, after school (Sr. Mary James was my teacher), I and my best friend would run to his house to watch DS.  We had the place to ourselves because both his parents worked, something exceedingly rare in those days.  They also left the house unlocked the whole day when no one was there, something else that was quite common back then but unheard of today, unless one wants his or her furniture removed without their permission.  So we would watch DS.  I so clearly remember the Adam storyline, especially

his abuduction of Carolyn.  When the show ended at three-thirty, I and my best friend would find his older brother's well-hidden stash of Playboy's and other porno and then hide ourselves in the closet and look the stuff over.  Of course, we never told Sr. Mary James about that.  I don't think she would've known what that was anyway.

Welcome Maria M!!  So glad you've joined in.

I kind of have mixed feelings about the return to 1968.  1795 is so good, and especially all that's been happening and the performances that we've been seeing in recent days.  I've just been "luxuriating" in it and it seems a shame for it to end.

I've told before that many years ago, one of our independent stations was showing it from the coming of Barnabas until way into 1795.  Then, they took it off.  They said it was the most requested show they had had, and so promised to bring it back soon.  Well, they never did.  I had always felt that they could have at least waited until the conclusion of 1795.

Well, when I did finally get to see that part, I discovered that there was a good bit more to happen in 1795 than I had anticipated, and that they weren't so close to the end afterall.

But then--remember the tense situation we left them in at the present day seance.  So, the instant this ends, there isn't a chance to feel even a moment's sense of completion, but we're immediately plunged into the follow-up and all is quite exciting for a while now.

Welcome Maria M! :) It's nice to have you here.
I was 7 years old in 1968 so I really don't remember way too much about what was happening back then. I do remember running home from school along with my three sisters just to watch DS!! Both my parents worked and my older sisters would invite their friends in as well to watch the show. We'd get out the chips and sit there just like we were at the movies, no one said a word & we were all mesmorized!  Im looking forward to seeing Willie's return also, along with a few others as well!  ;)

I hear you, Daphne (though I'm bigger on the '50's than the '70's)!  It's great to have you on the board with us too.  Hope you enjoy yourself!
