After years of attempts by the show's fans, Edge of Night finally returns this week.

The show ended it's 28 year run in 1984, and was well known as the crime thriller/murder mystery soap.

It began on CBS in 1956, and switched to ABC in 1975. During most of the ABC years, Joel Crothers was the show's leading man, while Robert Gerringer played a  colorful con man during the final 2 years.
Michael Stroka was on from 75-76, and John Sedwick
directed.

Edge of Night joins other Proctor & Gamble shows on P&G's Classic Soap Channel, launching online later this week.

Thanks for the heads up David.  I vaguely remember watching that soap with my grandmother way back in the early 60's.  Speaking of cable channel launchings, I wonder whatever happened to the "Horror Channel" that was mentioned a few years ago.  It was supposedly going to be a possible new home for DS.  The show never really seemed to completely fit SciFi IMO anyway.  Now, the Classic Soap Channel would be a different story.

Robert Gerringer played a  colorful con man during the final 2 years.

That might be fun to see.  I'm sitting here imagining Robert Gerringer playing Jason McGuire, and Dennis Patrick as Dr. Woodard.

Weren't Clarice Blackburn and Humbert Astredo also on Edge of Night at one point?

I recall inquiring about the 1960s and 1970s episodes of this series and being told by more than one confident authority that the tapes had been wiped back in the day.  But I always suspected that complete runs did exist for this, and other shows, in the studio vaults.

The Horror Channel died a painful death a while back due to serious issues between manager and personnel. It exists now only as a Web site, and as far as I know, nothing's changed that would indicate the TV channel will ever happen.

I don't believe so, Gothick, unless they were one-day cameos versus a continuing character. Clarice went over to "The Secret Storm" in 1969-70, after her Minerva Trask gig. She came back to DS once during the Leviathan story, and later in the "1995" segments as Mrs. Johnson when her character on "Storm" was "killed off."

But as for Six Degrees of Separation between DS and "Edge," Lois Kibbee, who for years played dour matriarch Geraldine Whitney on "Edge," co-wrote "The Bennett Playbill" and was very close friends with Joan Bennett. Robert Gerringer's character on "Edge" tried to woo Geraldine. And Meg Myles, who co-starred with the Divine One (Grayson Hall) in "Satan In High Heels", appeared on "Edge" around 1980-82 as Sid, a gravelly-voiced tavern owner. The soap world's a small one.  LOVED me some "The Edge Of Night."  Often as disturbing and tense as DS could be.

Color tapes of Edge's ABC years exist.
The CBS years are available fo viewing at the Museum of Broadcasting in B & W kinescopes.

Edge could be very disturbing.
Anyone recall Nicole's gruesome "death by poisoned
make-up"?

Cool Edge trivia: Dennis Parker, who played Police Chief Derek Mallory on Edge from '79-'84, also made both gay & straight porn as Wade Nichols!
