What else are you gonna do while in NYC?
« on: August 24, 2006, 07:30:23 AM »
I tried to reply to the "while in Brooklyn" thread, but it kept taking  me to another thread.

I wanna visit CBGB and Ground Zero. I know they're not exactly in Brooklynn, but... :)

My boss told me there is a cool exhibit in that seaport area that has human bodies ( deceased) and you can see inside them .I know I did not explain this very well and he said it is interesting so check it out. I think it is near the place they are gong with John Karlan on Friday.

Madame Tussaud's, midtown near Times Square. A must for the "haunted traveler." I thoroughly enjoyed my visit last time I was in Manhattan, although I hear the Karloff Frankenstein and Lugosi Dracula figures are not always on display.  >:( They also had a Karloff Mummy then...  Either way, the exhibit on the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution is also well worth seeing.
I also recommend the Cloisters in upper Manhattan. Its a museum devoted to medieval era art. Breathtaking and wonderful. About as close as you can get to step back in time without using the I Ching or Quentin's staircase.  ;D
Teresalita, I have heard of the exhibit you speak of. People have donated their corpses to "art" and you get literal slices of the human anatomy in full visceral view. I think it was developed in Germany.

I'd recommend the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and for the best home video/electronics values in NYC do stop by one of my favorite haunts, J&R Music World, located downtown on Park Row, across the street from City Hall Park! And yes, they have DS DVDs there for sale!  You can also get good deals on DVD at Entertainment Warehouse- one is at 6th Avenue & 14th Street (take the numbered 1-6 trains, also the M6 bus), the other is at West 40th Street near 5th Avenue- across the street from Bryant Park.  BTW, this week they're selling the DVD set of the first three Gidget films for only $2.99, so you know I've gotta get there today!   BuzzH, enjoy yourself, and don't forget to introduce yourself to me in BKlyn- ciao!

Oops- the place is called Entertainment Outlet, and yes, I got the Gidget set for $2.99 today- if you go there to buy it this weekend, the set would be marked $4.99, but the discount is taken off at the register.

Cool. I got the same advice on another forum I frequent, I'm gonna check that place out -

I'm hard pressed to choose between medieval and celtic art as my favorite - but I know I would love to spend an entire day or longer at the Cloisters.  I really hope to make it there one day soon.

New York City is a train ride away for me.  I can "go to the City" any time.

So instead, I'm going to concentrate on the Fest itself, and the people I'm hoping to see there..... ;)

We LOVED Sweeney Todd!  It's AWESOME!  I highly reccommend seeing it.  Will be sure to introduce myself Charles, and as I said before, you'll be surprised to realize we've met before.  ;)

Get well soon Jennifer!

I had plans to attend the Fest as well this year, but work interrupted those. It's a good thing I didn't leave either because we had a serious medical scare with my Father this past week and I would have been too drained to function properly. (Everything checks out ok though, so no worries there).

Hope everyone has a good time at the Fest! I've only been to a few places in and around NYC, China Town, the Hard Rock Cafe, and the Museum of Natural History (pretty cool!) My parents definitely reccomend a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge if the weather is right!
