DS on Blu-ray
« on: July 25, 2026, 04:25:10 PM »
Apparently technology has increased to the point that MPI will be releasing episodes of DS on Blu-ray. They are releasing a 3 disc set, consisting of Episodes 210-250. The episodes will be upgraded, eliminating the flaws that appear on the master negative. If the response is favorable, they will release the rest of the series in this format. MPI will have these available at the upcoming California event. Price has not been announced.

Interesting. I hope that upgrading to eliminate the "flaws" in the master negatives doesn't mean that they'll be editing out all the glitches. And several years back when fans would ask why DS wasn't being issued on Blu-ray, Darren Gross always said that wouldn't really improve the quality because the show was videotaped. But then, as you say, perhaps the technology to improve them has since been developed. Who knows? But regardless, if the eps with glitches will be edited, I'll definitely be a hard no for buying the Blu-rays. As it is the DVD releases already edited out too many glitches, even after MPI claimed they were no longer doing it, as I've frequently pointed out. And since I'd made those posts I've come across other DVDs where I suspect edits have been made. I can't be sure yet because I don't currently have access to my '80s syndication tapes to compare...

But I suppose we will see how things play out when it comes to the Blu-rays...

I find it a bit odd that they are coming out with Blu-rays now when the trend seems to be moving away from physical media. Well, no one has ever accused MPI of being trend setters. [ghost_rolleyes]

Believe it or not, the other day I saw an article that said DVDs and Blu-rays are making a comeback. Maybe MPI wants to get on the bandwagon while it's still a thing. But then, given some of the other merchandise MPI has pawned off on DS fans, I suppose they think some of us will buy almost anything...

i use Reddit & on there is an area for Physical Media & i see threads on there all the time how more people are quitting streaming & starting their own dvd or blu-ray collection. i was at Half Price about a month ago & this young guy i'll be 48 next month but i think he was in his 20's.  anyways, while i was looking at the cd's and yes i still buy them.

he was looking at VHS tapes i made a comment. VHS really? that's not something you see anymore & he explained how he is a fan of the tech. i forget what it's called i'm not a tech guy. & he loves the old CRT tv's.

and he was trying to get his friend who looked like he was bout 19 or 20 much younger than him.
so i think the higher the prices go on streaming & them taking movies and tv shows they pay for off.

Sony did that recently more people are getting fed up and just heading to physical Media. there was a news report on a week or two ago where they interviewed a record store owner. & i'm. based in Ohio but this wasn't a store in ohio and it was about how cd sales also have been going up.

so it's a good sign i saw an  article i googled last night on how it went from being a 20% drop in 4K''s and bluray's to about 9% meaning the drop of sales if i understand this right has slowed down 9 percent or something like that.  as for DS on bluray i belong to a doctor who fan website & have for years. They all said for years that was shot on video tape & it was except one story. so it will never see a blu-ray release and outside of the 60's seasons the entire show is nearly on blu-ray.  so i dunno maybe the technology finally is here? i bought this from MPI's website tonite in fact it's for sale on there now they are in stock.

no amazon listing it's $39.99 through MPI i'd say get it from them who knows when Amazon who do pre-orders. since it's a new release it's my guess gonna be full price anyways. it's my first time ever buying from them too

Well, I guess that it's just a bit too soon to write off physical media. Here's another example. Nancy Sinatra has been reissuing her 1960's albums with extra material. They have been issued in several different formats. Cd. Vinyl. Colored vinyl. And 8 track! So sometimes you just get surprised!

i know right the show looks fantastic on blu-ray i'm not a tech guy so i dunno how good or bad they are compared to the dvd's.  but from what i've read somewhere the sound quality is more sharper and more upfront than the dvd's. or else a fan said that on i think Reddit
