I like how they keep the mystery alive by making Rodger and others look suspicious. 

And of course if Vicky knew about the pen Rodger had motive.

  Vickie arrives at the police station. Richard Garner is there representing Roger.
Vickie tells her story of the pen, the locked door, and attempted hit and run.
     Carolyn arrives to tell her weepy story and argue Roger’s innocence. Then Roger comes in and tells his story revealing he stopped for gas when Vickie was almost hit. They await confirmation. This has to be the end of the pen.  Unless there’s some secret the pen still harbors.

I bet you are right about it being the end of the pen.  It would be funny if the pen and the bleeder valve combined together for some kind of magic spell though, maybe with some eye of newt
