Slideshow Quote
« on: December 07, 2024, 09:11:07 AM »
I found this quote from the slideshow - the 1841 PT one -  to be rather strange writing.  It was, "but you MUST mention none of what happened."  Surely, if you want to warn someone to not do something, you would say you "must not" mention . . . and not you must mention none!!!

It's funny that you say that because if you check out the Robservations except that I shared to give the quote context in the "Everyone In Collinsport's Favorite Word Slideshow" topic, you'll see that's exactly how the quote is paraphrased.

Of course, short of getting our hands on a copy of the script for Ep #1194, we have no way of knowing now if it was Joan Bennett who simply delivered the line as "but you MUST mention none of what happened," or if Sam Hall wrote it that way. Either is quite possible. And the way the quote phrases it is a valid way of saying it, it's just not the typical way. And if Sam Hall did indeed write it that way, who knows, maybe he was making a point that the people in 1841PT don't necessarily always speak the way the people in 1841RT typically might have. All those different choices and such.  [santa_wink] [santa_grin]

That is interesting  . . . It could even be Joan Bennett missed the NOT and think on her feet saved it by rewording  . . . Though I’d probably have to watch or rewatch to get a better idea of how logical that would be. B
