PS Annie can't wait to meet the Q man
Let me tell you about the first time *I* met David Selby. It was the 1994 LA Festival and he was a 'surprise' guest (he hadn't been listed on the flyer). My friend, known here as Selby D. Pearson, who's on the Festival Committe told me and other friends about it the night before he was to appear. It was Saturday night and the Fest activities were done for the day (they were screening HODS in the main room but basically the Fest was over for the day) and a bunch of us went to the hotel restaurant for a late supper. He was there w/other Committee members/friends of ours and one of my friends, a cousin not on this board, was wearing her custom made 'Quentin' shirt (it was GORGEOUS) and Selby D. saw it and said, "Oh, hey, David will be here tomorrow!" We were like, "Yeah, right!" believing that he was pulling our legs but he said, "No, seriously, he's a surprise guest, we found out today about it." Well, we just about FLIPPED OUT!
The next day, sure enough, on the sandwich board where Fest flyers went, it said he was to appear that afternnoon. And as the cast reunion was ending, they announced, "Ladies and gentleman--David Selby!" The room went NUTS and the flashbulbs went off etc...Then, when it was time for autographs they sat David at his own table initially (other stars showed up later and sat w/him) and my friend w/the Quentin tee was filming him etc...This little girl, she might have been 9, said to David, "Mr. Selby, I'm your biggest fan!" and my friend said laughingly, "No she isn't!" and David saw her tee (she was wearing it again) and laughed and said, "Yes, I see!"
Then, when other fans were still not sure when the autograph line was going to start, Jim Pierson opened up David's line and we JUMPED in it and got his autograph first and he was kind enough to take pics w/us etc...When I got my pic w/him I just leaned in close to be in the picture w/him while my friend took it and David said, "Hold it!" and stood up and put his arm around me! I about DIED! He was, and STILL is, GORGEOUS, and so sweet, I just wanted to take him home! He's a true southern gentleman, much the way dear Louie Edmonds was. Anyway, I still have that picture of David and I and it sits proudly in my living room. Whenever ppl visiting me see it they are like, "Hey, isn't that David Selby? How'd you meet him?" and I of course tell them.
