Bob, Amanda's followup novel to Smithy is Webster and it also just came out this month. When she wrote the original story, it was too large and had to be split into 2 volumes.

How many residents of Collinwood and Collinsport itself had a copy of Grace Metalious’s controversial novel to read in the privacy of their own homes? Do you think that Liz Stoddard, Roger Collins, Burke Devlin, Sarah Johnson, George Patterson and the Eagle Hill Cemetery caretaker, among many others, had this steamy book to pore over as bedtime reading?

I can only imagine how the original Reverend Trask and Abigail Collins, those two paragons of moral rectitude, would react to “Peyton Place” being read by the good, God-fearing people of Collinsport!

Young Maggie Evans probably would not have a copy of Peyton Place, deeming it to be too risqué. But Young Carolyn Stoddard would definitely have had a copy, with significant pages dog eared and particularly significant scenes highlighted and underlined!
