The publishers of Soap Opera Digest have announced that they will be discontinuing the weekly print edition of the magazine in the near future. They plan to continue to post content online. And to print "special editions" several times a year.
This is sad. It's the end of an era. But it's really not all that surprising. There are only four soaps left on the air. And, with print magazines in a decline, it was probably inevitable. Which makes it no less sad.

Back when I watched soaps faithfully my mom subscribed to SOD and I always looked forward to reading the latest issue and to talk about the shows we both watched. It's really sad to know it's going to end. But then so many great print magazines have folded, so it's simply the latest...

It's rather mind-boggling that in 1970, when DS was at its peak, that there were 16 different soaps airing on the various networks. They were all half hour shows. And there were probably just as many soap magazines.
