(Maybe the writers felt Mark Allen could pull that off but David Ford couldn't. Then again, I can't remember ever seeing why Mark Allen was replaced. Maybe he was because they wanted to take Sam in a different direction and cryptic/philosophical Sam no longer worked with that direction...)
