If you're on the MPI e-mail mailing list, you may have received an e-mail about their new DARK SHADOWS Barnabas Collins Bobblehead deal. It says the design is "new" but I never bought one in the past so I have no idea - and I have my MPI catalogues packed away (because I'm anticipating replacing the ceiling in my home office) so I can't check to see what the original looked like.

The e-mail is also hawking the Collinwood Musical Snow Globe and the Dark Shadows and Beyond:

DS gloves . . . I knew it did make sense as a collectible, but then I looked at the pictures and literally laughed out loud.   

Those gloves look so cheap, but are expensive even on sale.

A general question to my fellow DS cousins:

Have you ordered DS items from MPI in the past? If so, have your dealings with them been satisfactory or not? I’m thinking of splurging for the complete 1225 episode dvd collection.

PS I don’t know about a Barnabas Bubble-Head doll. But if MPI comes out with either a Buzz Hackett or Bob Rooney Bobble-Head doll, I am absolutely THERE!

   I would suggest buying it elsewhere because you can find a cheaper price. For instance, right now on Amazon it's $374.69. And if you can hold off until Black Friday/Cyber Monday, Amazon usually has it for an even better price...

Way back in the '90's, I ordered some VHS tapes from them and there were no problems at all - but then we're talking 30+- years ago.  I even contemplated buying the entire VHS series collection in one, fell swoop, but there was no information in the catalogues on how much it would cost (other than the price of individual tapes).  So I called them (remember when people talked on phones? - how untrendy) and asked and the guy I spoke to said:  "I have no idea what the price would be.  You're the first person who's ever asked about buying the whole series."  He said he would find out and get back to me.  For whatever reason, in the end, I didn't do it, and I have no memory as to why - it wasn't whatever price was eventually quoted to me; back then, I could've afforded it.

Thanks for the information. I think MPI is selling the complete dvd series for $399.99. I do recall some of the regular posters here reporting that some of the DS dvd sets from other sources were counterfeit and were of poor quality.

MPI states that their dvds are genuine. I still have my DS vhs tapes from the old SCI-FI broadcasts dating back to the early 1990s. So, after nearly 30 years, they still play okay. Although watching the DS dvds, which my local library used to have in their entirety (all 120 dvds), was much more convenient, with 10 episodes per dvd. The dvd extras are neat, with the interviews with many of the DS actors, writers and film crew.

It's definitely true that some DVD sets offered are counterfeit. For example, ones sold by Etsy ($150.00 for a set comprised of the original, the two '70s movies, the '91 series, and the 2012 DS -  PLEASE!!) and some outfit named Bonanza are highly suspect!    However, the coffin boxed sets sold on Amazon by Amazon are the real deal and reliable. I know that for certain because I have friends who have bought the sets through the years. However, of course the decision where to buy and for how much is entirely yours and should be entirely in keeping with whatever makes you comfortable.

There are several videos on YouTube that explain how to spot counterfeit Dark Shadows dvds. If you purchase them from Amazon, MPI or a reputable retailer, you should be fine. Avoid eBay and other such sites.

Just pointing out as has been stated elsewhere that the entire series is streaming on Tubi. But I'm not parting with my DVDs.

Part or all of it are on Prime with commercials.  I think it used to be there through IMDB, but now freevee.  If you already have Amazon Prime no extra subscription needed or new app to download either way.

I see where MPI has a Black Friday sale.

For example, the new Barnabas bobblehead is $25.00 and the Complete Set is $359.99. That's much cheaper than what it currently is on Amazon. Though Amazon may have deals coming up before Christmas...
