Massive Storm
« on: February 18, 2022, 11:40:26 AM »
I call it that only because that's what it's being called. All we have around here is heavy rain and some gusty winds. But it's all enough for me to have lost Internet access - the only access I have currently is with my phone. And that means there are a lot of things I probably won't be able to do on the forum until I get my Wi-Fi back...

Good luck dealing with the weather situation. It seems like the East has been having worse winter storms than in my Northern state. But our last wind storm during the summer felled a tree, and not having a chainsaw, I had to take an axe to it and am still suffering from a rotator cuff injury. Then I had to hire men to use their chainsaws and haul it away. Be careful!

My Wi-Fi is back. And the sun is shining so beautifully right now that it's hard to believe things were as bad as they were during the night/early morning.

As far as fallen trees, there aren't any in my general area, but something tells me there are probably dozens in nearby RI because there always are with storms like we just had. I swear the trees in RI don't know how to grow ample root systems.

The one good thing seems to be that not many people around here lost power. And I don't know how long I was without Internet, but if it was only for the five hours I'm aware of, that isn't bad at all considering how big the wind gusts were...

Thanks for the concern,  Philippe.  [snow_smiley]

We got the heavy rain and winds during the night but that was about it here in Connecticut. I'm glad to hear that you were only inconvienced for a few hours. Some of the recent storms knocked out the power for close to a week in other parts of the state.

I'm looking out my window and it's actually snowing right now.  Snowing!  Well, icky snow and rain mix.  It is rather surprising because while everyone else is being clobbered, here on the western shore of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin, it's February and we've barely gotten any white precipitation at all this entire winter.  The other day, it was over 50.

Well, I'm going to enjoy our sorta winter wonderland.  It's Friday evening, a dirty martini is waiting for me, and I'm all snug.

Thursday afternoon was beautiful in the Garden State. After buying tickets for the upcoming “Happy Together Tour” concert at The Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ, I drive over to the beach at Sandy Hook and took a relaxing walk along the shore.

Then, that same night, the monsoon-like rain fell, but was thankfully over by 9:00 AM on Friday and no trees were knocked down, I remember after Hurricane Sandy hit the East coast, it cost $1200.00 to have a tree cut down by tree specialists. I had to get another aged tree cut down last year and now it costs $2,000.00 to be rid of the d@mned thing.

I wonder if Mrs. Stoddard ever had Matthew Morgan or some local tree removal guy cut down some of those many trees surrounding Collinwood? Every time I saw that photograph of the Old House, I wondered why Barnabas didn’t have some of those trees that appeared to be dangerously close to the old dump, removed once and for all? Maybe Barnabas had “short arms,” and didn’t like having to reach down into his own pockets (or that jewelry box) and shell out the money/jewels to pay for the job?  [snow_huh] [snow_greedy]
