I think her importance wavered w/the various plotlines.  She was very important when Barnabas was torturing her and in 1795, but not much before he came on the scene.  Then she faded for a while in 1968 but in 1897 she was important again as a love interest to Barnabas at the beginning and the end, but not in the middle as I recall.  Haven't seen anything w/her past 1897 (Leviathan or PT) and of course she's gone by 1840 and 1841 PT.

I think her role became more important after her first major plot...she was very important in both 1795, 1968/70 and in 1897.

she wasn't always a major factor in every episode but she was an essential character once she moved to Collinwood...

You're referring I think to Kathryn Leigh Scott who was in all these storyline except for 1840 and 1841.

Her character Maggie was a 20th. century character not seen in the 1795 or 1897 storylines.

The other female favorite of many was Angelique. It would interesting to do a poll on where her significance went as DS character as the series progressed. I've never really thought about her character.

There's definitely no question about that :).  She and Angelique are regarded as DS' most attractive ladies.
