No Flashing
« on: August 23, 2019, 02:06:49 AM »
About a week ago, when I would go on my 'puter, there's a note on top saying 'As of 2020, Flash will no longer run' or something.
I read the article; as of last year only 17% of either users or sites used Flash.

MB...will this mean anything to us here?

It shouldn't. But it's always a good idea to update Flash - especially if you visit sites that do use it extensively...

When I hear "flashing," I think of the seventies.  Remember what that meant back then?

Gerard, hence the Topic Title.

MB, again, it said since Flash isn't really used anymore, it's going away...

How will this affect me and/or others?

It will only affect people who go to sites that use Flash.

This is the first I've heard that flash is on its way out, like netscape and webTV.  Most sites I use, including Publishers' Clearinghouse Sweepstakes (where I've already won over $700) uses only it.  No other upstart and tendy-today-gone-tomorrow will work.

Wow, Gerard!  Until recently, for several years I did a bunch of Publishers Clearinghouse sweepstakes and games every night.  I once won $75 from a search.  You must be really lucky!

Well, it took time and patience, Josette.  I accumulated those riches over several years.  The most I won at one time was $300 from having the most earned tokens from the PCH homepage.  A couple prizes were from Amazon and with them I bought a book and a DVD (2002's Carrie).  Everything else has been cash.  Back in July, on one day I won $20; the following day I won another $100.  When I cash the checks the tellers all say they need to start playing.  You have to put up with a lotta annoying ads but, hey, it's free!

I had the computer turned off for a bit and when I restarted it, and opened Chrome, for a moment a message popped up at the top saying that Flash won't be supported after December 2020.  At least that's far enough away that we'll probably hear a lot more about it and what will happen then.
