VHS Tapes That Are Now Worth A Fortune

If you still have this VHS, you could be sitting on $1000!

VHS Tapes That Are Now Worth A Fortune - Lemora, Lady Dracula Has Conflicting Reviews

And the same movie, different release: Lady Dracula

I don't recall if I've even seen it. I know I never owned it.

Too bad I was never a collector of Disney movies...

I haven't seen Lemora in years. It used to be shown quite frequently on one of the local NYC stations. It's the story of an incredibly naive thirteen year old who leaves her church to visit her estranged gangster father. Her search brings her to the little town Astoroth, which is apparently vampire central. There are two types of vampires in town, one quite feral and similar to Romero zombies. The other factor is more human, urbane and sophisticated, led by Lemora. Lemora takes a fancy to our heroine and if you don't know where that's going then you've never seen The Vampire Lovers.Lesley Glib isn't quite as captivating as Ingrid Pitt but she is quite effective as Lemora. Cheryl Smith was much older than her character is supposed to be but she is pretty good here. She did a lot of exploitation movies until she passed away in 2002, due to hepatitis from a two year heroin addiction.

One of the few Disney videos I have is Beauty and the Beast.  But everyone bought that one so it must be a dime a dozen.  I do have both HoDS and NoDS on video.  I imagine if I tried to sell those, you-know-who would send out an army of lawyers.

The article says the Black Diamond edition of Beauty and the Beast is going for $13,500 on eBay!

Most if not all of the outrageous prices cited in that article (which seems to have been written by a non-English speaker--or possibly assembled by a robot) are the result of a practice known as "bookjacking." It has extended now to media--DVDs, CDs, and other, including old VHS tapes. It's quite unlikely that any "collector" would pay those prices unless they literally had more money than brains. As noted in this article (there are several others available online--check your favorite search engine), the prices often do not even represent a vendor who has the actual item in hand to sell.

So true.

The sad thing, though, - or the good thing for the seller - is that those sorts of people are out there. For example, I saw them back in the mid-'90s when DS memorabilia was going for way inflated prices on places like eBay (particularly on the last 3 Ross novels and the green card set). People paid those prices. And back then no one could even blame "bookjacking" because it didn't exist. But I suspect those buyers may have a lot of regrets now because prices for DS memorabilia are much more realistic these days...

It was taking too long, then telling me 'next'.

I own West Side Story, A Christmas Carol (the '51 version) and Miracle on 34th Street.

I doubt they're worth anything; my library doesn't accept VHS tapes anymore.

The Lemora thing sounds good; if I go to YouTube, what's the actual title of the flick?

Thanks,
Patti

Just enter Lemora in the search bar. The movie was the first thing to come up when I did that.

I see where Lemora, Lady Dracula is on COMET at 2am ET on Sunday. I've just programmed my DVR to record it...

And it's preceded  at 12am by Love Bites, that movie I posted about back in February -

Love Bites, written/directed by Malcolm Marmorstein

- where the vampire looks amazingly like a certain vamp we all know.

Interestingthat the movie actually calls itself LEMORA A CHILD'S TALE OF THE SUPERNATURAL.

And speaking of children, apparently there's nothing like a game of Ring-A-Round The Rosie on acid!!  [ghost_cheesy]

Like a lot of horror movies from the period, Lemora has had quite a few different titles. The Legendary Curse of Lemora and The Lady Vampire are two of them. And there are probably others as well. The multiple names were sometimes a way of tricking exhibitors (especially drive ins) into booking the same film more than once.
