Quentin did drink way too much, but I always got the impression that it was his choice, that he just liked to overindulge. It seemed to me that he only drank when he wanted to and if it was important not to drink he could have stayed sober. Whereas, William Loomis seemed to have a problem with his drinking, he was an alcoholic .

I haven't seen 1970 PT yet, but have read the Concordance and it seems that probably Will Loomis did.

But hey, how 'bout an honorable mention for Roger!?   ;D

I think Quentin did have a serious drinking problem-- not just for fun, but actually an alcoholic. There were several occasions where he was clearly drinking to alleviate anxiety/fear or escape from the terrible reality. That's not just over indulgence

People do that a lot without being alcoholics.   It may be the most important use alcohol has, despite the drawbacks and damage it can do.    Not very PC but true.   It wasn't exactly as if there was a more practical and less toxic alternative, for Quentin.   One of the most interesting things about a werewolf story is the seeming absolute lack of hope.   On the other hand, drinking "just for fun", that's not any less harmful, when overdone.

Magnus-- Q drank pretty much every day, and often a pretty substantial amount. Yes, he had a particularly high stress life (btw, he drank a good amount when we first met him, but his drinking did appear to increase), but that doesn't make him not-an-alcoholic. I think Q would have a pretty hard time if he was told he could never drink again, and that's why I think he's an alcoholic.

Quentin always had a glass of Brandy in his hand but It seemed almost a prop for him, like Barnabas and his cane, he never got stupid with it like Willie did.

Quentin and Will were both heavy drinkers and a little AA might not have hurt in their cases but I think Sam Evans could have given them a run for their money as far as gulping down the booze went. Now he could have been the poster child for AA.

Oh, Q was an alcoholic.    His business.    My point was that after being cursed, with no conceivable way out, alcoholism may have been the best option available.    I'm just not sure how useful or helpful it is in all circumstances to point a finger and say "Alcoholic!!"     That seems more of a judgment than it is constructive.

You are absolutely right Magnus. We need to plan an intervention for Quentin as soon as possible. If we have time we can enter parallel time and try to address W.H. Loomis' issues as well.

Aside from Willie, Quentin and Sam Evans, Roger Collins seems to dip into the Brandy quite a bit too. But I think that we are a bit off the mark from the original question. [ghost_embarrassed]

Are we?  I thought we were talking about drinking problems.

Garth... William Loomis the writer?   Dead, so the alcohol has probably leeched out of his system by now.     RT Q?     He's skulking in bars and excessing someplace, and he must continue to serve as an example to the rest if us mere humans.

When Quentin drinks, does his portrait get the hangover?  [ghost_wink]
