Our mom (and dad) used the Easter Bunny (along with Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy) as a strategic weapon to assure not being naughty.  Acting sassy?  No basket and toys (we always got a major toy on Easter) that Sunday morning.  Worked like a charm.  My mom used it until my late twenties.
