<OT Faux Pop Ups HELP
« on: March 23, 2019, 02:07:23 PM »
I couldn't remember if this new computer came w/Norton et al.

I looked last night, & Chromebook says it needs NO antivirus.

Just in last 3 days, I'm getting A LOT of pop ups, most for bogus sales things; the first one was when I went on to Amazon; it seemed like a genuine Amazon thing, now I have some bogus $4.95 charge on my bank....and it'll be an auto renewal for $87!!! (I've tried calling, they gave the option of calling me back, which of course they haven't.)

How do I block the large number of pop ups, which again weren't there until about 3 days ago.

Re interrating, this is on a Chromebook.

HELP

Patti

Within the post above, Patti? If so, I'm not seeing any...

As for Chromebooks, they don't use Windows, so they can't be affected by Windows' viruses. Chromebooks run the Linux-based Google Chrome OS as their operating system and Google claims that a multi-layer security architecture that's built into the system eliminates the need for anti-virus software.

As for the pop ups, is there no way to stop them in your Chromebook browser?

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do it because I've never used a ChromeBook browser. But I suspect that if it is possible to do it, how to do it is explained on the Internet. Try doing a Google search using something like "stop pop ups on chromebook" - some explanation is bound to up. [easter_smiley]

There was a loud noise (speaker) on my computer.
First off, I can't find out how to adjust the speaker; when I put it in settings, nada.
Other ways, it wants to teach me how to adjust speakers on Win 10 et al.
I'm on a Chromebook.
Then, when I came on here, I saw a little doo-hicky, which I though was a speaker.
It's not...it's PackTrackPlus which is why EVERY site I go on, an add'l tab with a different site opens.
So...try to see the directions to uninstall PackTrack, but, again, only for Windows.
Does anyone know how to uninstall PackTrack from Chrome?

Thanks
Patti

PS, While hovering on it, it says it has access to this site....

PackTrackPlus is an adware program that displays pop-up ads and unwanted advertisements not originating from the sites you are browsing, so I'm not quite sure what you mean by it has access to this site?

Also, it's very likely that PackTrackPlus was installed on your computer while you were installing some other software that you'd downloaded from the Internet. Whenever you install software be very careful because quite often other software that they don't tell you about can come bundled with it. The best way to find out if that's the case is to always choose a custom install if that option is available. A custom install should show you every piece of software that could be installed on your computer during an installation and give you the option to opt out of installing software you don't actually want.

As for removing it from Chrome, you might try looking here:

How to remove PackTrackPlus adware [Virus removal guide]

Scroll down to the section that comes after Windows and that has the headline "Remove PackTrackPlus from Google Chrome".
