I Never Fail To Find Fascinating That...
« on: February 12, 2019, 05:16:10 PM »
...either John August himself or those writing about him often list the Depp/DS film as his sole credit when mentioning his name in an article:

New 'Aladdin' Teaser Reveals Will Smith's Genie

"The live-action film is directed by British filmmaker Guy Ritchie (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) and is written by John August (Dark Shadows)."

Sure, August does still get a story credit - but despite the fact that he claims his script for DS is the best script he's ever written, the actual script they ultimately went with was written by Seth Grahame-Smith...

(And speaking of the Depp/DS film, when I just went to IMDb to make sure I had the spelling of Grahame-Smith's name right, I noticed that the popularity of the film is rising on IMDb. It's currently ranked 944th - and with tens of thousands of films on IMDb, that's also fascinating...)

Here we go again with another article with the Depp/DS film listed as one of John August's primary credits, despite the fact that so many of his other scripts actually were turned into films but his DS script wasn't:

New Poster & Trailer For Disney’s Aladdin
Directed by Guy Ritchie, the film stars Will Smith, Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott

Apparently John August of DS fame is now working on:

GREASE FRANCHISE TO GET A PREQUEL, SUMMER LOVING IN THE WORKS
Grease was a smash hit at the box office and in record stores following a 1978 film debut.

References Michelle Pfeiffer as having been in the sequel...

And again:

When is Aladdin released in cinemas? Who’s in the cast and what’s it about?

I suppose I should just get used to it at this point...

John August's DS credit has popped up several more times in connection to Aladdin but I haven't bothered to share them because the credit has become so commonplace. So commonplace that, in fact, I'd now be more shocked not to see it than to see it...

Not to mention the fascinating aspect of August's DS credit has been completely overshadowed now by how recent Jessica Chastain articles have tied her to the '04 DS pilot!!

Given that Aladdin has opened this weekend and is doing very well, it will probably surprise no one that there are articles about it all over the place. But once again so many of them continue to list DS as one of John August's main credits, sometimes even his only credit.

I'd love to know what August himself thinks about that...

Aladdin’ Sequel In The Works At Disney, John Gatins and Andrea Berloff To Pen Script

I wonder why John August isn't writing the sequel. Though maybe he turned it down...
