From Playbill News, Nov. 1:
Broadway Performer Paula Laurence Is Dead at 89

Laurence played Aunt Hannah Stokes on DS in 1970 PT.

That's the forth loss of a member who's associatied with DS in this year. First Anthony George, then Dana Elcar, and then Henry Kaplan.

What a shame!  :( I enjoyed her turn as Aunt Hannah and was sorry that the character wasn't around longer.  And as Professor1985 mentioned, we've lost another DS-related person. Very sad.

This is sad news.  Interviews with Paula Lawrence were included in the most recent release of the DS DVD's.  She talked about how she came to be on DS and about her time playing Hannah.  I must admit to being surprised by how well she looked in those interviews because I knew she was not terribly young at the time she was on DS, and that was 35 years ago.

I just loved her work on the show and wish she had been given more to do- a real asset to the show that was terribly underused.  I feel very lucky to have met her at a DS Festival years ago.  Well, at least her fine work on the show survives...... :(

I also agree with Charles that she was underused. Too bad because she was a great actress. She will be missed very much.
