Grayson in Kojak, Pt. 3
« on: May 29, 2005, 06:19:45 PM »
Her 4th scene:

Kojak points out that her son didn't pack his boots and warm jacket for his supposed hiking trip.

"See here, Lieutenant, I don't question every move my son makes or what he wears.
Now what is this all about?"

"I refuse to be intimidated  by the police on some vague pretension."

She refuses to tell him anything more.

Kojak (after apologizing):  "May I?"  He takes a taste and says, "I thought it was coffee.  It's just my style."

He makes her laugh by telling her that he has a number of nieces and nephews that also "hike".

She's more forthcoming.  When asked for names of John's friends:
"He never mentions them.  He knows it annoys me."

"We stay to ourselves.  It's safer that way.  Believe me, I know..."

"John's father ran of with one of my friends.  John was only 6.  Does that prove anything?"

Kojak answers:  "It says a lot, Mrs. Cambell.  It says an awful lot."

In the next scene, he catches her son as he's about to permanently silence his victim.

Gothick, I just don't see the frumpiness.

frumpy?  Aside from the few curlers dangling. .and you kinda wonder what her 'relationship' with her son really was after that quick kiss .. ewwwwwwwwwww. . .

i think i read somewhere that she decided on the contents of the coffee mug herself and didn't say anything about it . .only Telly caught on and his line was unscripted.  .don't ask for a citation . .my notes aren't in 100% order yet!

I think those were some harsh close-ups for a mature actress.  Was that what Gothick referred to as 'frumpiness'? I remember seeing Doris Days shows and they blurred the lens so much she was barely visible.

Thanks, Midnite, for the shots and dialogue for those of us not able to see the broadcast.

OMG, there are two scenes in this showing that aren't on my tape of the episode!

*Steve bounces up and down in elderly scholar's version of happy dance*

I'm sure that GH herself considered those clothes frumpus maximus!  The curlers in the wig are a hoot!

That's fascinating, J99!

did she play a "good" or "bad" character?

She played an overprotective, moody and embittered lush of a mother who is in denial about how horribly he turned out.

You're all welcome; I'm glad you enjoyed the images.  Gothick, you're SO cute.

I've heard about a special lighting technique too called the "Faye" light .. named after Dunaway .. and Madonna is supposedly demanding it now when she's on screen--a special color and intesity light is held at eye level and helps fuzz out the lines i guess. . .

Many thanks again for sharing these wonderful images, Midnite darling.

Grayson reminisced about her and Telly's improv work that created the "coffee cup scene" on Kojak during the "Grayson Gathering" of August 1982.
