Accent Marks
« on: April 05, 2005, 12:45:43 AM »
I did a search:

(and I do not know how to make something on an old board appear here):
from Current Talk III
Quote from: Luciaphil
Yep, I think it's called a "tete a tete" chair (there should be accent marks in there, but I can't figure out how to do them here).

I read the thread...didn't see the answer...yet our wonerful, wonerful cousin Luciaphil does make accent marks appear on her Luciaphil's Idle Thoughts Board.

How?

Thanks,

Pattil

How?

She pastes accented letters into her posts from her word processing software. ROBINV has done the same thing in Robservations. For example, here's the first line from one of the 1795/96 opening voiceovers:

380 - (Lara Parker) - A seance has been held in the great house of Collinwood, a seance which sent Victoria Winters back on an uncertain and frightening journey to the past, back to the Collins family who lived in the year 1795.

It appears that the standard alt-key combinations work for accents here...

I did a search:

(and I do not know how to make something on an old board appear here):

If you mean you don't know how to link to an older board, you'd click QUOTE in the original message.  Highlight the entire message in the response window and copy it.  It's the code that creates the link, so you need to copy it entirely.  For example, to link to your main topic you would need:
Code: [Select]
[quote author=Patti link=topic=7410.msg63669#msg63669 date=1112658343]TEXT[/quote]Paste what you've copied into your post and discard all the parts of the quoted message that aren't needed in your post.  If a reader would like to read the quoted passage in its full context, they need only click the link to arrive at the original post.  Make sure you don't lose that closing quote tag.

Hope that helped.   8)

What are the alt-key combinations for making accents?

You hold the Alt key and press a few numbers from the number pad on the right side (with Num Lock on). For example, Alt-130 is "e with aigu accent," and Alt-133 is "a with grave accent." If you want to say acute instead of aigu, by all means, go ahead. Just that I speak French, so, you know, that's what I use. XD

I don't know if it will work on here, but I found a website a long time ago that gives HTML combinations to make accented letters. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the website off the top of my head. All I know is that the codes used the ampersand button.

Wow thanks! I had just ended up memorizing a bunch of the common ones since I had to type them all the time. Unfortunately, I don't have a number pad on my laptop (:(), so I can't use them anymoooore. :( :(
