New DVD review
« on: March 22, 2005, 12:57:31 PM »
The review doesn't say a hell of a lot, but does say the best part of the release is the interview with David Selby.   :o   (Maybe a slight exaggeration?)  lol

Anyway it lists the price at $29.95.  That can't be right, can it?

MPI lists it for $59.98.  The stated $29.98 is a typo, like J.J. Upatkin.  ;)

From DVD Verdict review:

My favorite in this set occurs during episode 863, when Pansy visits Tate and a window shade goes crashing onto the floor as she enters. It distracts the hell out of both of them.
Oh it does not.

Well, chacun a son goo.  I don't agree that Magda's accent was "terrible" (though it was sometimes terrifying), it was larger than life, just like the character herself (the concept of theatricality appears to be lost upon today's audiences).  I also do not agree that Leviathans was as boring as Liza with a Z or whatever that pathetic woman said.

I don't think Judge Cullum was paying much attention while watching these shows.  Evan's spell to drive Petofi out of Quentin's body failed, and the Leviathans were from Earth's own Underworld, not from an alien planet.  But then, what can you say about someone who finds a minor blooper to be the most exciting moment of the set???

Damn, I wish *I* could find someone to send me DS DVDs for free...

(didn't really, fully understand Midnite's quoting policy, so I won't quote), but, I didn't recognize the names Assoc. Producer George DiCenzo nor tech. director JJ Upatkin...??

or whatever that pathetic woman said.

Yep, when I read that interview, I was thinking "this is a FAN of the show?"  Most of her comments regarding the show were negative.  And, yeah, the reviewer sounded mostly clueless too.

Hi Patti,

George Dicenzo is one of my favorite DS production people.  I believe he's the one who once described Grayson as a "gutsy broad" that he loved a lot.  I think he might have gone into acting after DS went off the air... gods, I'm probably conflating two or three different stories here... I'd love to see that interview, and they are now getting into episodes that I run at least a couple times per year, so I just may invest in the new set.  (I've already been pondering getting the Tom Jennings storyline, and in my dreams I would love to own all of the Cassandra Collins story--I DIG Cassandra!)

J. J. Lupatkin worked fairly steadily throughout the series, I believe, but I am not sure just what he did.  Would be fascinating to see an interview with him.

Some of those DVD reviews I've read on the Internet come off mean-spirited and unenlightened, with much space wasted on maligning the actors and snickering at the loyal fanbase of DS. I put on my gloves when a review of DVD #12 accused Grayson Hall of "cardboard chewing" and looking skeletal, and Don Briscoe of being "the worst actor ever on television".  Yes, both Grayson and Don had bad days, but I never saw bites taken out of the scenery, and I can write a laundry list of TV actors "worse" than anyone who appeared on DS. Some of these cynical "judges" (as they call themselves) need to spend a moonlit night in the crypt with a hungry werewolf.

It's the title of a 1969 Dan Curtis TV Movie about a Haunted House.

To play devil's advocate, this is probably not an easy show to review. It's not like most other TV shows; it's got a serialized format; and let's be honest here, most viewers who are not fans  have a lot of things they need to get past. I'm not just talking about the shoddy production values and the manic Teleprompter readers either.
