Victoria Winters is my choice. I felt she had a special repoire with David. She had a hard time with him in the beginning, and after a not so good start, the two of them became very close. I liked how she risked her own neck in order to save him from his terrible & evil mother.  >:(  I also felt she had the patience of a saint. He treated her so badly at first, locking her in the west wing, trying to scare her half to death,etc...  And still, she was there for him. They also had a special onscreen bond together as well.  :)

I have to vote for Victoria Winters.  Having persevered through David's initial behavior towards her, and eventually winning him over, she deserves an award!

Victoria Winters also gets my vote. Like others have mentioned, David really gave her a hard time. Most people probably would've quit, but not Victoria. And then she even made a strong bond with him. I remember when I first tuned in she didn't want to leave David alone because he needed her. She also faced some stuff from the other Collins originally though that went away very fast. She's the only Timetraveling governess I know of, other then Daphne Harridge, but Daphne was dead when she was in current time. And didn't Victoria stand up to Burke back in the Mitchell Ryan days over his thing with the Collins?

Daphne, Maggie, & Rachel Drummond I haven't seen as governesses yet, but I don't think my mind will change. Having a future Charlie's Angel as governess must've been cool though.  ;)

Well, it's obvious who I would vote for.  Of course, Rachel Drummond would come in a very close second.  She so reminds me of my first obvious vote.

I guess I'm another Vicki vote.  I havn't seen any episodes past this point, but I get the feeling that the show is done taking the whole governess thing seriously.  I think someone mentioned that Vicki and David didnt even have any more scenes together some time ago.  As stated, her resume is quite impressive, and, hey, shes Vicki.

Before the arrival of Barnabas, she gets my vote.  She's the only one who actually ever seemed to teach.  As the others have posted; Vicki did her best to connect with her charge and help him.  After Barnabas, and I think the kids would have had a better chance of learning anything by trying to sleep with a book under their pillows  ;)

Maggie Evans--the woman was a waitress for God's sake.  I don't care if she had some college classes; I can't believe she had a degree and if my kid or nephew was destined to inherit a large fortune and business, I would not be entrusting his education to someone like her.  Sorry, Ringo and the other members of the TLATKLS club ::)

Daphne Harridge--well, she never actually seemed to do anything.  She came to the job with quite a different agenda and her motivations aside, that hardly qualifies her :)  If the kids liked her, it was probably because she never had them actually studying.

Hortense Smiley and Phyllis Wick--don't remember Hortense and as for Phyllis, not enough data.

Rachel Drummond--let me put it this way.  She's a definite contender for Worst Governess of the Year.  Not sure what criteria Vam had in mind, but I'm guessing a brain is one of them.   ;D

Vicki is the only one of all of them who ever behaved like a governess, so she gets my vote.  I do feel sorry for Rachel whenever I watch those episodes.  I think she was a nice enough girl, but to describe her as uninformed would be a charitable act.  I know I would have packed my bags the first time Judith had that "little talk" about how "all hell breaks loose here every night, but we DON'T say anything about it!"

Vam, you're a librarian too??? We should start a club!

Best,

Steve

Yes, I am a librarian and the idea of a club is neat.
We can call it "Shadows in the Stacks" or "Books and Bats"-What do you think?

Well, I'm not really a librarian, just a bib assistant--I do provisional records (all encoding level a) when I'm not migrating stuff out of OCLC, RLIN etc. and most of my time is spent doing orders and receipts.  So I'll be in the servants' quarters, obviously.

I bet there's a slew of biblio-related workers here, though, and it would be fun to have an honorary association.  I kind of like Shadows in the stacks.  It sounds appropriately ominous.

Cheers,

Steve
