Looking at an entry in her diary from 1967, when Julia first arrived at Collinwood, Julia wonders if she may have just "slightly" overstayed her welcome as a house guest in the great house now in 1970!!!!

I wonder if Julia was watching TCM with Elizabeth, Carolyn and Maggie, and the Bette Davis/Monty Woolley film comedy classic, "The Man Who Came To Dinner," came on, would Elizabeth gently "hint" that Monty Woolley's character in the film (a house guest, who never seemed to leave) "reminded" Liz of "someone" she knew?

In both "The World of Dark Shadows" and "Inside the Old House" fan publications, an excellent writer named M.J. Reid had several of her DS stories published.  In one of the stories, M.J. Reid described Julia Hoffman as being "the world's most persistent house guest." I think Ms. Reid hit the nail on the head with that oh-so-apt description of the estimable Dr. Hoffman.

(It definitely would have been interesting to see how or even if Julia or Liz would have reacted to those two shows. By 1970 it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that Julia had morphed from simple houseguest to doctor in residence with no expectation of her leaving in the foreseeable future!! 

And I've never seen the movie version of The Man Who Came To Dinner, but I have seen the play, and it's great!!)
