1. It shows up on the Forums' home page
2. It means that someone has posted a new message within a Child Board.
Folks, we have a winner. Congratulations, Miles!!
Yes, indeed - when I archived all the posts from CT to CT X and from CE/A '05 to CE/A '04 II, the
icon appeared on the home page opposite CT and CE/A '05, respectively, to indicate new posts on their two new child boards (though that was only because the child boards had been newly created - obviously the archived posts weren't actually new). And subsequently, when mscbryk replied to 'cassangelique's "look"' and dom, FireRose, Heather and Julia99 replied to 'Julia, the sly minx *Spoilers, darlings*' on CT X, and FireRose replied to 'a "joke" from barnabas' on CE/A '04 II, it once again appeared on the home page - to indicate posts that were actually new on those child boards. However - and here's where the trick comes in (you know that there's ALWAYS a trick to the custom title contests
) - it's quite possible that not every cousin visting the forum would have seen it. Why? Well, as soon as a new post was made to the parent board (meaning to either CT or CE/A '05), the icon that cousins are much more familiar with:
would have immediately replaced it (only leaving that very same icon turned on in front of the actual child board to indicate that a new post had been made to it).
Confused yet? Well, trust me - it's all much simpler than it might appear to be upon first read.
The bottom line is that the only time cousins will see the
icon is if they're caught up on all the posts made to a parent board but a new post has subsequently been made to at least one of its child boards.
And BTW, MIles - I'll be waiting to hear what custum title you'd like to choose for yourself.
