Did Johnathon Frid ever do one? How 'bout John Karlen?

hey patti, according to kls's book "dark shadows almanac" j.frid read the opening voice-over only 12 times.j.karlen read it 24 times.the book does a round-up of all the actors that ever did it(50 actors total).alexandra tops-out at 387 readings.

this is just me but i prefer it when an actress,not actor,reads it.

I loved it when John Karlen did the voice over......I always thought of that as "his" voice, rather than Willie's.

I wish that they had never ceased using AM for the opening voiceovers. "My name is Victoria Winters..." was as much to me an "icon" of the show as Barn's ring, cane, or any other prop and/or whatever icon of the show. I remember not hearing it for the first time and feeling a great sense of loss.

But that aside, there sure were some fantastic post-VW opening voiceovers weren't there?

that's exactly how i felt too dom after the first post-AM voiceover.i loved that it was like a girl reciting something from her diary.i know her episode one voiceover by heart(i'm sure alot of us do).

my "quote" is part of one of vicki's voiceovers from the very beggining of the barnabas story when she still started with "my name is...".

Hi dom! {wave}

Yeah, but her voiceovers would have had to have stopped anyway once she left the show.  It wouldn't have fit anymore - especially once they went into 1897 and whatnot.

I'm rather partial to Selby's voiceovers.  He did 46.  I love listening to them on headphones.  (Mmm....yummy)  They're really very very good.

David had three. Denise had none. I thought I'd remembered David doing one but not Denise. I think my memory is improving, lol. The source for the count was from one of KLS's DS Alamanacs.

I love both Grayson's and Thayer's. They both did voice work on commercials and such professionally, which may have been why they were asked to do so many.  I've often wondered how the decision was made--I would presume the director decided.

Jonathan Frid only did them towards the end of the show, iirc.

Considering the way they flew-by-the-seat-of-their-pants in that studio, whoever was directing that day probably yelled "who can hang around for the voice-over" and the actor who objected the least ended up doing it.

Or else they drew lots and the one with the short candle got stuck.  ::)

Yeah, but the good ones (including the ones by Lad Karlen) are quite performative, and they've obviously read over it a couple of times and perhaps made notes... I would guess that Lela or Kaplan or whoever it was decided during the morning read-through of the script.

I think I read somewhere that the person doing the voice over had to be on that day's show. This way they didn't have to pay anyone extra.

As to who from the episode they chose to read the VO I'm not sure how they went about making that decision.
