Release Date Set for Selby Film

Dreamworks SKG has announced that Surviving Christmas, starring Ben Affleck, Christina Applegate, and James Gandolfini with David Selby in a small role, will be released on October 22, 2004.

Originally, the film was slated for a November release, but apparently it has been moved up to open opposite the remake of Alfie.

Portions of this movie were filmed around the Chicago area in early 2003, but the release of the film was delayed to allow studios with Affleck films to stagger their release dates so that they would not compete with one another. (And no one was eager to release the first Affleck film following Gigli.)

My understanding is that David doesn't appear in any of these, but I've not actually looked at them.

The film is scheduled to premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on October 14. Tickets to the premiere are distributed by the studio and are not available to the general public, but this info might be useful for anyone on the lookout for coverage on the various entertainment shows.

I just saw the first add for the movie. Alas no David in the clip.

My understanding is that he plays Jennifer Morrison's father, and her character has been described as Affleck's girlfriend, though apparently over the course of the film his interests turn to Christina Applegate.

For anyone keeping score, Jennifer Morrison also appeared with David in Intersection. She played Richard Gere and Sharon Stone's daughter. There's an online interview where she comments that David has played her father before. Actually, he played her mother's boyfriend who has a special way with pancakes. 

David's character's name has been released -- Horace Vanglider.

Apparently in an effort to salvage what $ they can from the film, Dreamworks is releasing it on DVD on December 21, 2004.

I think I already mentioned this in another thread, but I can't remember what I've posted where. Anyway, despite the fact that a July release date was publicized for the film, as far as I know, it never actually had a premiere. It was only shown at film festivals and never released in theatres. The DVD release will really be the first chance that the general public gets to see it.
