1991 Series Questions
« on: September 08, 2004, 11:19:22 PM »
Now, I don't really remember watching much/any of the '91 series (but, IIRC, I did...hmmm).

Why no discussion of it here?

Also...why no montages of '91 series? (Not that I would know who they are, which, of course, is probably the reason why.)

Patti

How long was the '91 run for? When did it premier? I do remember alot of commercials for it in the summer preceeding....(at least I think I do...FDSMS) ;)

We've actually had several discussions about it.

Also...why no montages of '91 series?

Montages were posted on the VantageNet incarnation of the forum for the series' 10th anniversary back in 2001. It hasn't been shown (or released on DVD) since this version of the forum was created, so there really hasn't been any reason to post montages here. But just for you, here's a copy of the montage for the series pilot (though it's sort of squished because the actual montage is 620X542, but the forum's system will resize it to 528X461 for display in this post):

How long was the '91 run for?

Thirteen hours over a ten week period.

Sunday, January 13, 1991.

Actually, more than 20 different promos, ranging from 5 seconds to 2 minutes long, began airing in mid-December 1990, leading up to the January 13th debut.

I suppose they won't get around to releasing it on DVD until the entire original series (including the pre-Barnabas episodes) has been released.

Has anyone attemtped to figure out (taking into account how often a new DVD is released) how long it will take to release the entire first series?

You're probably right about releasing it on DVD, but it IS available on tape.

That's a great montage.  There are some wonderful shots of Barbara Steele in there.

Love the montage, MB - thanks!  Does anyone know whether the '91 revival aired all of the episodes they shot?

I recently rewatched the whole thing and loved it, just as I did back when it originally ran.  The revival series was my bridge back to the original Dark Shadows, and for that I will be forever grateful!

Yes, they aired all the episodes (though unaired footage was added to the Episode #1 and #12 MPI tapes).

I remember watching & enjoying it when it first aired, haven't seen the tapes though.  I don't recall too much about it overall but do know that I wasn't too keen on the '91 Willie.  I also didn't like Cross as much as Frid -- Cross was still good but not as soulful as Frid.

I did quite like Angelique though.  She was a lot crazier in the '91 version if I recall correctly.  Not quite as overall enchanting & compelling as Lara Parker but fun to watch nonetheless.

It certainly looked better, very stately and attractive.   No microphones or stagehands suddenly making guest appearances -- though some would say that those elements are part of what makes the original series so much fun.  ;)

I agree with the sentiment that its better than the rubbish on these days.  The reality show craze is so dire and embarrassing.  :P

If I recall, there is one blooper that was left in the 91 show; not sure which episode, but Joanna Going plainly calls Joseph Gordon Levitt "Joe" rather than "David." Probably kept in for old times' sake. :)

And those palm trees!  Those blasted palm trees everywhere, and this was suppose to be Maine!  Oh, those palm trees!  How I hated those palm trees!

Sheesh, Gerard!......it wasn't the palm trees' fault that they were standing there!!!!!

Fault the idiot who set up those outdoor shots!

Palm trees!  Palm trees!  Did you say palm trees?  Aaaaaaah, palm trees!  How could they have been so...so...so...sloppy as to have palm trees!  Palm trees!  I'm actually glad that the WB series didn't make it since it was basically filmed in the same locals and that meant that there would undoubtedly be........palm trees!  Palm trees!

Okay, okay, calm down.  Breathe.  Maaaint...taaain.  Maaain...taaain.  There, I feel better now.  Sorry for having such a...a fit.  But everytime I think of those palm trees.....   Palm trees!  Palm trees!  Who said palm trees!  Aaaaaargh!  Christinaaaaaaa!.........Bring me the ax!
