On & Off Topic
« on: June 25, 2015, 11:27:25 PM »
I was just viewing something on 'another DS site' (don't worry, it's Stuart's), where DC's Turn of the Screw is mentioned; it says buy Turn of the Screw on Amazon.

I went there, because, I'm ashamed I don't really know the story. I see though that is Henry James and
it's about Daphne, Tad and Carrie.
But, there was something else, that may be of importance to Sci-Fi affecionados:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004WJT5H4/ref=amb_link_434118042_3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=hero-quick-promo&pf_rd_r=036CQC1NTCFRVY22EN07&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=2108888022&pf_rd_i=B000060MVG

In case the link didn't copy correctly, it's that TODAY on Amazon, you can buy the entire series of Stargate Atlantis for $43.99. That's the blu ray, I believe it's for BR/regular DVD also. It says it's 20 disc version.

I believe that would perhaps make someone happy.

I got "Gilmore Girls" in a fancy packaging for less than $100 about 5 years ago (same with "Charmed"). I received an email from Amazon a while back, I could've bought whole series of "Boston Legal" for like $50! AAhhhh!!! I didn't buy it!!! :(

KLS was in a movie with Vanessa Redgrave? Vanessa Redgrave was in a DC production? (Again, though, HJ story.)

KLS appeared in Turn of the Screw with the late Lynn Redgrave, not Vanessa. Lynn was the governess and KLS played the ghost of the previous governess. KLS beckons a lot but she has no dialogue. This was done in England back in the early 1970's. I saw it when it aired as part of ABC's Wide World of Entertainment, which ran opposite the Tonight Show. I haven't seen it in at least ep years.

Patti--the original Quentin haunting Collinwood story on DS (the original series) was heavily based on TURN OF THE SCREW.  In the last year of DS, when they were scrambling for story material (after the incredibly original PT 1970 and 1995 storylines), they wound up turning to TURN OF THE SCREW again, but did make some changes from how it was played out in the original 1968-69 version with Quentin & Beth.

Gothick, so out of all the other suspense/mystery stories DC could have 'borrowed' from, he figured since 1895 Quentin was wildly popular, let's do it again??

Yeah it may have been that Gerard was meant to be the "new Quentin."  I don't think he really took off, though he (James Storm) was featured in the later 1970/71 teen mags quite a bit.

The most iconic version of TURN OF THE SCREW is an early 1960s film called THE INNOCENT.  If you watch it, you'll see some foreshadowings of DS.
