Suspect Thoughts claims to tread on dangerous ground, and putting up stories featuring real people, incarcerated or otherwise, as characters--and in a less-than-flattering light--definitely does so.

Lara's writing is nicely done.

Am I safe in assuming this is a true story? It just rings very true. I thought it was interesting, it held my attention, and I think she did a good job. It's an easy read - nicely descriptive but not overly so. Toward the end of the story the tension was really building for me. By the end I felt pretty nervous - it was unsettling! LOL

She's a good writer, isn't she! I've never read her book. What's the general consensus? Do most people who've read it, like it??

Did Ms. Parker actually do a guest spot on "Baretta"? If so, then ...

I'd also describe her writing here as breezy, effortless.

I prefer "Angelique's Descent" though.

Interesting, I just made a folder on my computer titled "Fiction," and this is the third story I've saved (the other two by E. F. Benson and Jonathan Nolan). Not sure I'd actually save this one if it weren't by Ms. Parker ... Er, maybe I'd better go back and check what the website said about saving or duplicating ...

Will placing her story on this particular site enhance her reputation as a writer? I wonder ...

Of course in saving it, this was simply to allow rereading it at my leisure, particularly in light of Midnite's caution that the story may not be up much longer. I have no interest in distributing it (often a copyright concern), and I can certainly delete it from my computer. What about printing out a hard copy? Would that be construed as duplicating or reprinting a copyrighted work? Just curious about the legalities - certainly wouldn't want to step on any toes.

It's perfectly fine to print the story out to read at your leisure, as long as you don't distribute it. Technicalities aside, any online publication that would expect readers to only use their computer screen to read fiction isn't going to have much of a readership.

so true i printed it just so i could read it but if a friend wanted to read it could you let them?
does it mean to distribute it for profit?

Distributing it for profit is a major no-no, but one would be hard-pressed to stop you from letting a friend read your copy, especially since the Web site offers fiction for free. I haven't checked back on the site, but I expect it may be supported by advertising, so they're hoping anyone who visits the site will at least be exposed to the advertisers' promos. So giving a copy to someone else deprives the site of traffic that -might- end up being profitable somewhere down the line. Still, I doubt the advertising police are going to be coming down on you like a ton of bricks.

having just read it i was wondering the same thing Connie. just wondering why she picked him!
he sounds so creepy in this story but he has bigger problems right now i quess!

I'm printing the story to read now. It sounds interesting. I never watched Beretta and never know Lara had a guest spot on the series.

I personally enjoyed Angelique's Descent, particularly the earlier chapters. As with Wicked, I think there are weaknesses in the denouement prescribed by the source material for this character--I find both Angelique and Elphaba shrill simulacra of the characters established earlier in their respective stories in those final chapters. I guess I am a more fastidious reader than is called for by the times in which we live, though (and being old and cranky, I suffer fools with less and less grace).

People point out glaring inconsistencies in how Angelique tells the events of 1795 in the novel; but, given what the series writers did to the original narrative in the later years of the show, I find myself more forgiving about her, um, 'interpretations" of the facts as we see them in her own book.

btw, the picture of Pan on the front page of this site is from the Cosmic Tribe Tarot deck--it's one of my favorite tarot decks, and you can see the other images at http://www.stevee.com There is *a lot* of frontal nudity (male and female) on the cards--I guess I should warn people who have issues with the human body about that?

Copyright is a fuzzy thing, but I suspect that you handing off a printed copy to a friend is the equivalent of you loaning a videotape, book, or CD to a friend.

And yes, you are perfectly entitled to print out a copy to read. That I'm sure about.
