Ron Eldard stands out as a wily, war-weary GI in this thoughtful 1998 cable drama, which explores the conflict between the needs of the military and man's instinct to survive.
The film is set in late 1944 and the Allies are on the verge of victory. Battles continue to rage along Germany's western front, however, and Pvt. David Manning (Eldard) is the only member of his platoon to survive a vicious skirmish. His captain (Martin Donovan) sees in him superb battlefield instincts, noncoms see a "yellow streak," and the script shows there is some truth in both views. But Manning doesn't care what the others think: He just wants to stay alive. Chamberlain: Frank Whaley. Sanderson: Zak Orth.
