Somehow, I don't think the original series method of simply ignoring the problem of Barnabas' antiquity is going to work in a prime time series.  I can't quite picture a complete lack of automobiles, computers, plasma screen televisions and telephones....especially considering the demographics of the network involved.

So....how do you suppose they're going to handle teaching Barnabas to live in his new environment....and what excuse will they have for marching back and forth through the woods from house to house, instead of calling one another on their cell phones?

Barnabas will claim to be old-fashioned. He will say that he's always done well without all the modern technological advances--computers, cell phones etc. In England he always had a driver. He never had a phone because that would disturb his solitude. He will be just thought of as eccentric. [blackbat]

Raineypark, I haven't seen the 1991 DS series since it aired back then, and i cannot remember if they dealt with Barnabas learning about "our" time. but i know that innovation comics explained that Willie suppied him with books, tv etc

the page before this one was a riot, shows Barnabas shaving and Willie bringing him a TV guide & a Playboy magazine.

Raineypark...besides the two different 1991 Ben Cross Barnabas resin kits that were released. i would have to say the Innovation comics were the best DS merchandise from the 91 series.  the comic images were life-like and they were not afraid to show alot of blood

I think Barn'll have a cell and a computer, but not necessarily a TV. "Idiot Box!" (Of course, his rationale will be that a) he's not going to pay $60/month and b) that the SOX HAVEN'T WON IN A WHILE....sorry sweetheart Jennifer ).

He'll NEED to walk (I can't see Barn doing his 2 miles at the mall!!!) :D cause of his 'cholesterol' ;) (which, also, can help explain the Dr...cause a Julia character needing to be there to 'research' would be very outmoded.)

The '91 series' Willie was VERY different the original version as portrayed by John Karlen. I suspect you might have hated him.

I'm picturing our new Barnabas, still 21st-century-technology-challenged, walking into a Sharper Image store, seeing a tanning booth, thinking it's some contemporary, chic style of coffin, purchasing it, taking it home, plugging it in and, well, you can figure out what would happen from there.  The new Willie would have an awful mess to clean up.

After 209 years in that coffin, i bet the first thing Barnabas asks Willie is if the outhouse is still down the path behind the oldhouse.  Getting caught up in traffic is one thing, over 2 centuries  :o

no problem Patti after all it is a new year ;D but if some of the dumb wits out there in 2004
can survive i'm sure a smart vamp like Barnabas will sort it out. some days i long for the "simple days" but then i log on to buy something, stay attached to my loved ones
with my cell phone, nuke supper and tape  a movieand say Who am i kidding?[lol2]
