Some really interesting choices.

Michael Nader auditioned for the '91 series but obviously wasn't cast.

But, Stuart - Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Barnabas?! Someone's been watching Velvet Goldmine once too often! And can you just Imagine Barnabas showing up at Collinwood and singing "The Ballad of Maxwell Demon"!  [wink2]  Though that look might work as a new one for Barnabas:

Or better yet, could you imagine Barnabas singing "Tumbling Down" at the Old House:

Jake Gyllenhaal could be a very good Willie, though - but he probably wouldn't be willing to give up his film career for TV...

Thanks for these gorgeous captures, MB!  Did you see Rhys Meyers in Gormenghast?  I do think he's too pretty and pouty for Barnabas, but he'd make an interesting Quentin, especially Quentin as the spoiled prettyboy of early 1897.

My housemate has become addicted to Smallville (which I alternate between calling Schlongville and Schlockville, depending upon how much skin Tom Welling has been showing on any given episode).  I told him that Ian Sommerhalder had been discussed as casting for the role of Barnabas, and the poor lad practically had a seizure!

I do think James Marsters would make an interesting Barnabas, with dark hair, of course, and a different look.  At least he has the needed theatrical traning to pull it off.  I fear there aren't very many people in the current WB stables of whom that can be said...

I agree about James Marsters--he could make an excellent Barnabas! I wonder though, if he would be interested in playing another vampire? I also think it would be great if they got Kathryn Leigh Scott or Nancy Barrett to play Elizabeth, although I wonder if they'd really consider it.  We'll have to wait and see.

Don't know if this is considered spoilage.
I notice that in the listing of casting scripts, not only is Maggie Evans not there, but there's no sign of Quentin either.   ???
ForGET about it!   >:(   :P

Quentin didn't appear until deep into the original series.

I wouldn't expect him until late season 1/mid season 2 if at all...

Cool... as it had to be teensy to fit the page layout, that's a good an excuse as any to show the full-size version.

And pfffffffffffffffffffffffffft to those who poured scorn on Jonathan Rhys Meyers.  He'd be great, and a touch of glam rock chiq is just what Barnabas needs ;)

Clive Owen is my other contender for it - he's another Brit, often mooted as a future James Bond, with a charisma all of his own and a face with a shadow of eternal age.

No doubt he has the acting chops, but I just think he's too young for Barn.  :)

Now there's an interesting choice. He's definitely got the looks of Bond by Ian Fleming's description (although I understand he's no longer a serious contender after Brosnan's tenure). For Barnabas.... he might actually work. Wonder how he looks with fangs?
