OT: Gay Weddings in San Francisco
« on: February 15, 2004, 02:12:03 AM »
It was the most joyous celebration I've ever seen here.
Hundreds of gay, lesbian & transgendered couples expressing their love for each other, some with their own children as witnesses!

And having thier unions legalized.

Nothing speaks louder than love!

On Monday, I'm proud to announce, I'll be sworn in as a San Francisco Deputy Mayor.
I'll be spending the day performing wedding ceremonies, mainly for these loving, lovely, same sex couples.

I'm so very proud to 'know' someone like you.  Bravo, David, Bravo!

Thanks everyone!

It's a temp job, but I want to be part of history! People will be talking about this for decades!

I'm thinking of doing what I need to to get a permanent license to perform
civil ceremonies, with same sex couples as my specialty.
Gay weddings are already legal in Vermont & Mass, CA & NY are expected to be next, NY State & SF City are already recognizing gay weddings from elsewhere.
The world has changed for the better before our very eyes!!!

How does this sound for a ceremony:

"Love knows no race, no gender, no lifestyle, no religion, no national origin. Love simply is, and need not be explained or justified.

Love is patient, love is kind, love does not insist upon it`s own way, love is the ultimate understanding between two people who want to be together in this life and beyond"   :)

WHOA!  Deputy Mayor of San Francisco!  That's quite something.  [thumb]

I was wondering about this.  Does this mean that gay couples will also get the tax advantages, medical coverage for spouses, etc., that other couples get??  Or is it just a piece of paper at this point?

I somehow have the nagging fear that the world, including THIS country, hasn't changed as much as we may think or wish.  All you need is one or two vigilante types who think "God" or the Pope (or some other showbiz figure), speaks to them through their dog or something, and it's their duty to "save humanity" and go on a violent rampage.  (That whole Harvey Milk incident from years ago keeps popping into my mind).

Don't mean to be a killjoy or anything, but please take care and PLEASE be careful.

PS  I like your ceremony thing.  Ya know what I'd like to have in the ceremony if I were gay and getting married?  Something about how we are all, in essence, pure spirit, and that the spirit is genderless.....something along those lines.

Calendar Events / Announcements boards - "Post all your special events, announcements, notices of Web site updates, items for sale, personal messages, and well wishes - basically anything DS-related that isn't specific to the DS storylines"

If the subject isn't personal, it should be somehow DS-related.  Otherwise the comments need to be taken to private mail or another forum.

Midnite, the on-again -- off-again enforcement of the "rules" gets confusing.  When I first saw this topic, I was a bit surprised, and guessed that you would reply with a reminder about off-topic posts.

But, this time, you were the first to respond and in a positive manner.  Once it was here, it seems reasonable that others would continue to comment.

Now, you suddenly indicate that it's inappropriate.  So, which is it?!!! :)

There is absolutely nothing sudden, mysterious or arbitrary about it.  That board description has always been at the top of the Announcement/Events boards since the first one, and it's been enforced the best we can for ages.

But if you tell me what part of "If the subject isn't personal, it should be somehow DS-related; otherwise the comments need to be taken to private mail or another forum" isn't clear, let me know and I'll try to explain it further.  David's news was personal and (I thought) exciting, but I can't imagine how the subjects of hearing voices, gay marital rights, and Harvey Milk, in the context in which they were used here, can be considered personal or DS related.

I quite agree with what you're saying now.  My question was that you didn't post a reminder of the rule when the topic first appeared, but instead you replied to it!!

Congratulations, David!  How FABULOUS for you!

Is there a website where we can see photos of you officiating?

I hope your day is simply grand!

Best wishes,

Steve
