Maggie's mysterious guest..who is he?
« on: February 10, 2004, 06:12:08 AM »
Does anyone know who this is with Maggie? i posted this question many years ago on the DSCC news letter and nobody could come up with an answer. i read the big article about the 1968 gum card set posted on the darkshadows.co.uk site, and found out that the picture for the card was taken during episode #248. which featured Burke, Sam, Maggie, Barnabas, Willie & Sheriff Patterson.  -robert

Many of the photos for the cards were taken during rehearsals for the episodes so I've always assumed that person was a "stand-in" for Frid/Barnabas, but I have no idea who he is.  :(

Could it have been Timothy Gordon?

???  You know, I had without ever really pondering it, thought the guy looked like Richard Garner. However, as he wasn't at all in that episode, I would have to agree that its probably a stand in. Timothy Gordon or a camera man is a pretty good bet.

It dawned on me that maybe the names of the stand-ins were listed in one of the PomPress books, and sure enough both versions of the DS Almanac list: "Alfred Dillay: (2) Stand-in for Barnabas Collins (1967)".

Now, I'm assunming that is possibly referring to episodes like #232 and #233, in which we only see Barnabas' silhouette, or episode #348, in which we only see the aged Barnabas from the back. But perhaps he also filled in for Frid/Barn during rehearsals...

I'll bet you are exactly right MB. I asked Jim Pierson about this particular card yesterday and this was his response; That was a rehearsal out-take photo used by mistake.Could have been a publicity guy or someone on the crew.

I bet you this guy is the funeral director who brought the caskets to the show. I mean look at him. He looks like James Whale for crying out loud! ;)

I get a kick out of these guys who think they're so clean, when all the time they're trying to cover up their dirt.

Given that the rest of the picture looks a little "retouched" to make some of the details more distinct anyway (Maggie's white-sleeved arms against her white gown), how hard would it have been to discreetly to cover Blond Boy's head with a similarly-posed clip of Barnabas's , before sending the pic to the card printing company?

Oh well, it's certainly more interesting this way.

No kidding. This faux guy even has the same kind of folds in his neck that Frid had.

Thank you everyone for your input. looks like you narrowed it down to a couple of good choices. i watched this episode last night, and saw that Barnabas carried Maggie into the secret room where she awakens inside the coffin.  then from Maggie's point of view, she sees Barnabas close the coffin lid. it did not show Barnabas or anyone else standing next to the coffin as shown in the gum card.

I guess this is as good a spot as any to ask; Is it known whether or not the actors are the one's who submitted the signatures that were used for these cards?

I don't know about all the signatures on the cards Dom, but the signature "Angelique" on the cards and the pin-up poster of her are the same as Lara Parkers "Angelique" signature on a 8 x 10 picture i recently bought from her web site.

Hmm....doesn't look the same to me.  Looks like someone attempting to copy her signature.

I remember seeing a Quentin card with a signature once (if it's on my harddrive, I don't know where).  Anyway it was not Selby's signature.  If I find it, I'll post it......along with his real signature.

You are probably right Connie about someone back then copying her signature. i can see now after really looking that 'ANG" in 'ANGELIQUE" is different. i think the way both signatures are at an angle or slant threw me off. -robert
