San Francisco's beautiful 2000 seat movie palace, The Castro Theatre, opened in 1922. continues it's long tradition of screening classic films and new art films. Film Noir is on the bill for Jan 16-29, 2004.

Part of the film noir program will be 1949s The Reckless Moment with our own Joan Bennett.

Shows once only at 9:10PM, co-billed with The Accused starring Loretta Young.

Castro Theatre is at 429 Castro, off Market (415) 621-6120

also on the current Castro calender are Wizard of Oz,
The Godfather(applause, applause) the French horror classic Eyes Without a Face, and Hitchcock's Vertigo(wild cheering)

theatre trivia: from 1922-1924, future Oscar winner Janet Gaynor was an usher, on the theatre's opening night staff!

The theatre was also recently renovated. . good cushy seats with cup holdes now. . but the bathroom is small. . ahh i used to live only 3 blocks away. . .another trivia tidbit:  when the theatre opened the neighborhood was known as Eureka Valley  (and sometimes still is referred to as such)

Ahhh...EYES WITHOUT A FACE!  Seems the re-released version is playing every major American city except Philadelphia, which is why I intend to relocate after finishing grad school, but that's another story...

So, wow, Julia99!  I didn't realize that you lived so close to the Castro!  When I last visited SF, I stayed with a friend who lived in the neighborhood!

Thanx for the heads-up, David! I hope I´ll be able to make it! I´ll be out of town on the weekend of the 17th.
I´ve really enjoyed Joan on DS lately. I always do. She´s my fave!  ;D

Hi Dom:
you and Bill should try to come to town early, if you can, so we can all have dinner & see the film together.

The Castro would be a great place to screen the DS movies for their 35th anniversaries!

I think I forgot to mention that Joan screens on Thurs Jan 22!

Hi, David! I work Thursdays but I could probably get the day off. Bill would be a no show, he leaves for work at 5:30am so he couldn´t even consider it. I´ve never seen Joan on the big screen, that would be so marvelous. And in the Castro, it would be a scream!  And I would!  ;)
