Terry Crawford
« on: May 08, 2014, 12:52:02 PM »
I was always sort of disappointed terry crawford never appeared as a "present time" character. she's the only major female player we never got to see in "modern" clothing.

Terry Crawford had a cameo as a nurse in HODS.

I posted once about her not being in the present time and most people agreed it was because Dan Curtis didn't have a part for her.

true. it would appear that no part existed for terry in the "present"...

still it would have been fun seeing her in a fall and a mini. I gather she was not under contract?

Maybe Terry only had a one year contract. That would have been up about the time that 1897 concluded. Curtis could have simply told the writers to create a part for her. He certainly did it often enough with Roger Davis.

I guess including the time Crawford played a ghost in 1969 it was about a year she was continuously onscreen...

perhaps she was brought back as a "day player" for edith in 1840. she was only in a few episodes.

I wonder if Megan Todd was originally conceived of as a part for Terry and she wasn't available for some reason. At least one of the TPTB (Robert Costello, I think) was initially quite resistant to having Marie in the part.

I think I heard that.

I can't say I've ever heard that Megan Todd was created with Terry Crawford in mind - and that sort of detail is dealt with a lot in the various PomPress books. Though I've definitely heard at various Fests from Marie Wallace herself that she was considered wrong for Megan. Sheesh! How wrong could they have been because I can't even begin to imagine anyone else in the part. But then, the part may have evolved and been tailored more to Marie after she was cast.

Terrayne left the show during 1897 to do a movie ("Sam's Song" AKA reedited as "The Swap" and commercials. She was let out of her contract with the understanding that she would return when she could to fill out a couple of episodes still left on the agreement. She was called back for 1840 and was available. I can't recall all of what she told me but that's the gist of it. I'm under the impression (perhaps incorrectly) that she really did not want to return full time.

There's an interview somewhere in print with Terrayne where she talked about how fond the fans were of the Beth role.  When she came back, she did not care for the role of Edith, and neither apparently did the fans.  She spoke of fans writing letters in imploring the show to bring Beth back.

This may be the only instance, apart from Diana Millay with Laura, that I've heard of someone who worked on the show being so personally invested in a specific role.
