SHADOWGRAM OFFICIAL ONLINE DARK SHADOWS NEWS:

SHADOWGRAM NEWS UPDATE # 310

Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

ShadowGram (SG), The Official Newsletter & News Source for Dark Shadows (DS) announces the following key breaking news in this Official DS News Online Update "bulletin."

**** SG PREMIERE ANNOUNCEMENT:
HOLLYWOOD BIG SCREEN DOUBLE-FEATURE MOVIE NIGHT
WITH DARK SHADOWS GUESTS
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 2014

“Doctor Mabuse: Etiopomar” – World Premiere
Dan Curtis’ “Dracula” – 40th Anniversary Celebration
And “Dark Shadows” Music Composer Robert Cobert's 90th Birthday!

Bringing You a Night at the Movies With
DRACULA, DARK SHADOWS, and DOCTOR MABUSE!

The double feature event on the evening of Wed., April 30, marks the world premiere of “Doctor Mabuse: Etiopomar.” It’s the sequel to 2013’s “Doctor Mabuse,” which was world-premiered 4-27-13 at the Coronado Village Theater in Coronado, CA (San Diego),

The second part of the evening is the first public screening of a newly-restored print of the acclaimed 1974 film adaptation of “Dracula,” from DARK SHADOWS’ creator-executive producer, DAN CURTIS.

This special “Movie Night” will be held at the historic Vista Theatre, 4473 Sunset Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90027.   (323) 660-6639.

We celebrate “Mabuse” and the 40th anniversary of Curtis’ “Dracula” with our in-person guests:

3 DS ACTORS / MABUSE STARS:

Reprising their characters in the first “Mabuse” movie:
JERRY LACY
LARA PARKER

And in his first MABUSE role:
CHRISTOPHER PENNOCK

Writer-director ANSEL FARAJ will also appear with other cast members.

VERY SPECIAL GUEST:
Dark Shadows & Dracula Music Composer
ROBERT (BOB) COBERT

Premiering and available for purchase at the event will be:
--- The DRACULA soundtrack music CD by Robert Cobert
--- The DRACULA restored movie on Blu-Ray

Robert Cobert will be signing these brand-new releases, and we will celebrate his 90th birthday!

--- Also available during the evening: DS and Mabuse give-aways, plus available for purchase: memorabilia, ShadowGrams, special items from our guests, and the first “Doctor Mabuse” film DVD with deleted scenes, interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage.

--- “Etiopomar” stars JERRY LACY, returning as the mysterious, powerful title character. Also starring are LARA PARKER (Madame Carrozza) and KATHRYN LEIGH SCOTT (Madame Von Harbau), portraying 2 clairvoyant sisters, and CHRIS PENNOCK as an evil new nemesis (Professor Konratz).

As a sequel to the first “Mabuse” film, “Etiopomar” continues the surreal, darkly-suspenseful story of the city Etiopomar, taken over by the “mental manipulator” Dr. Mabuse. He grips the dying city in his power while some – human or not? –citizens try to attack and weaken him, and others seek to snatch control and destroy him.

--- “Dracula” stars Oscar-winning actor Jack Palance as the legendary vampire of Bram Stoker’s novel. Often cited as one of the best versions of the classic book, it originally aired on CBS-TV in 1974 and was released theatrically outside America. Shot on location in Yugoslavia and England, the film includes an atmospheric music score by composer Robert Cobert, who turns 90 this year.

I wonder why KL Scott won't be there? She's in both Mabuse films.

Finally, they're adopting PayPal.

But why must this event be held in the middle of the week?  It's unlikely I'll be attending this event as I don't see how I  can get to the theater from work in time. :(

It is a good version. And nowadays I can't help but find that one of the most fun things to do while watching it is to spot all the sequences DC lifted directly from it and recreated for the '91 DS.  [snow_wink]  But as we know with DC, if it worked once, it'll work again and again and again and...

I looked on Amazon just now for the Dracula score CD and couldn't find it.  Is it only going to be available at the event?  Marketed through MPI?  any further info?

I couldn't find them on Amazon either, nor MPI.  My guess though is that the likely labels are going to be MPI or Screen Archives Entertainment.  (The latter released the 1991 series soundtrack.)  If it's Screen Archives, it might be only a matter of a few weeks before release that they make any announcement.  And if they're doing the Blu-ray (through their label Twilight Time), I wouldn't be surprised if it's a $30 limited edition.

Thanks, KMR.  Last year I bought limited issue releases of the "Goodbye, Mr. Chips" music (with the late Peter O'Toole and the fabulous Miss Petula Clark) and the 1967 "Casino Royale" (one of my favorite Sixties extravaganzas) and both were such lavishly mounted releases... Dracula may soon join them on the shelf.
