Even in the Fast Overnights Elementary held its own very well against the Olympics:

10 p.m:
NBC: Winter Olympics (18.3 million, 10.5/17)
CBS: "Elementary" (9.3 million, 5.9/10)
ABC: "Shark Tank" rerun (3.3 million, 2.2/4)

That's actually more viewers and a higher rating than the show sometimes gets in the overnights against normal competition!

I finally got caught up last night! A lot more Joan Watson this season but I am really diggin' it. No complaints.

It's Joan that keeps me watching the show, lol.  Great character, and just seeing what she's wearing makes me happy.  Not a big fan of JLM's Sherlock, however, and I practically need closed captioning when he starts the rapid mumbling.

I enjoy both characters. I think they're very well written and played to perfection. It's really the two main characters, their interactions with each other, and their interactions with others that's the draw of the series for me - the mystery of the week is mostly secondary. And when it comes to JLM perhaps I enjoy him so much on the show because, as I've mentioned before, I've been a fan of his since the first season of his series Eli Stone back in 2008, and even before he did the DS film I was checking out his other work.

As for not being able to understand JLM as Sherlock, as I've also said, I can honestly say I never have trouble. But I know I'm probably in the minority there because people here have said they have trouble along with a few of my friends in real life who also watch the show. One theory I can give is that over 40 years of watching English imports on PBS must have tuned my ears to all sorts of English accents because I never have trouble understanding any of them.  [ghost_nowink]  Well, that and my own English ancestry. Maybe it's also something that's ingrained in my DNA.  [ghost_cheesy]

For me, MB, (besides what's in her closet) it's how Joan's role has shifted and her relationship with him has evolved.  I like the supporting cast too, btw; love Aidan Quinn!  [snow_happy]

I think it's fantastic that you have no problem understanding him.  I can't say that I recall having had that issue with other British actors-- for sure not to this degree.  When I caught a screening last month of Frankenstein with JLM as the title character, I enjoyed it enough to want to see it again with the roles inverted, but I had difficulty with some of his lines there too, and that was with the UCLA theater's state of the art acoustics.

I dig the whole kit and caboodle. I am really falling into Joan's perspective though. Sherlock was the fascinating one to me first season. This season it's Watson that's got my attention. It's really awesome -- I'm enjoying it immensely. (This last episode from last week really gave me a premonition of JLM leaving.)

I still have difficultly with Miller because he speaks very softly at times. If I can watch with loud audio I generally don't have a problem but if I need closed captioning at any point before the first ad, I leave it on. I have the same problem with Jim Caviezel in Person Of Interest. He's so soft spoken that I just can't get what he's saying sometimes. Again, if I can turn up the volume I'm usually good. Re: JLM, I don't think it is the accent per se -- my hearing is starting go.

It will definitely be interesting to see how CBS handles Elementary come fall...

And once again Elementary comes in first in viewership in the Fast Overnights:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" (8.5 million, 5.4/9)
ABC: "Scandal" (8.4 million, 5.9/10)
NBC: "Parenthood" (3.8 million, 2.5/4)

Not by much - but the amount doesn't really matter - especially not when once the +7 DVR numbers are factored in the amount is bound to rise, just as it always does...

I read a list of the 20 most watched TV shows for last week and Elementary was not on it. There wereup to five Oscar-related shows at the top of the list though.

The show is changing. I think they might be testing the waters for a JLM-less cast. I'm certainly waiting to see if Joan gets asked to assist solo.

Any list compiled for last week's shows would have had to have used only the Fast Overnight numbers and, thus, it wouldn't have been completely accurate because all the Live + 7 DVR numbers haven't even come in yet for all of last week. Though even at that, Elementary isn't always in the Top 20 - especially when there are special shows on during the week, like ones that would be Oscar-related. More often than not, though, Elementary shows up somewhere in the Top 15.

It's no surprise whatsoever - Elementary has been picked up for a 3rd season:

CBS Picks Up 18(!) Shows For 2014-15

And in their second head-to-head battle in the Fast Overnights since the return from the winter break, Elementary beat Scandal handily in viewership:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" (9 million, 5.6/10)
ABC: "Scandal" (8.1 million, 5.6/10)
NBC: "Parenthood" (3.9 million, 2.7/5)
